'09 1125cr, 35K miles: The clutch action became weird - lever disengagement zone moved closer to the grip and lever action was mushy (for lack of a more descriptive term) Upon inspection the clutch master cylinder (MC)was empty There were no visible leaks on the MC, line or right side engine case The inside of the puck shows some very minimal amount of fluid leak by and the slave cylinder leaves a slight black residue when it is actuated then retracts. I refilled and bled the clutch. The fluid that came out initially was mighty dirty With the clutch MC now bled and full, positive, consistent action of the clutch lever and disengagement zone have returned Where'd the clutch fluid go? Yes, I replaced the slave many, many miles ago with, if I recall correctly, the EBR kit. I'll look through my records to attempt to confirm the source of the replacement slave. EDIT: The clutch slave cylinder that is currently installed is indeed from the EBR kit. It looks like I need to replace the o-rings. Does anyone know from where replacement o-rings are available for the EBR Clutch Slave Cylinder Kit? Thanks much. (Message edited by pwillikers on February 26, 2020) |

Haha! I'm a well prepared idiot. This is what happens when you've got too many motorbikes and the mindset of a boy scout. I just rummaged through all the 1125 parts I have in the garage, Barnett Clutch packs, stators, drive belts, mirrors, Harley stator relay wiring, regulators, cafe handle bar kit, blah, blah, blah and look what I found!

Fluid will be in the case cover next to the slipper diaphragm, I have added changing the clutch fluid to my annual service list as I had the same thing happen. |

Thank you Steve. Clutch fluid had indeed leaked past the EBR slave cylinder o-rings into the cavity under the right side outer engine cover. The clutch vacuum diaphragm was soaked in brake fluid. It took a long time to clean - it had absorbed quite a bit. I'd wipe it off and a half hour later it would weep some of its absorbed fluid and become drenched again after initially appearing dry. After five cycles of wipe and weep, I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol five more times letting it sit for a half hour between cleanings. It finally stopped weeping fluid. The source of the leak was a tear in one of the small, square cross section o-rings on the slave cylinder. For reference, I installed the EBR slave cylinder ~20K miles ago.
