I've ridden through Wyoming a couple of times on different bikes, but never on this Buell. I live in Portland OR and I know I can ride about 500 miles a day. I've taken a couple weeks off work to look for twisty roads. I think this bike is very good at sport-touring and I really like that I can put two weeks of stuff in a tail and tank bag. Tomorrow I'm skirting around Yellowstone (I think Yellowstone is not very good on a bike) and I'm heading for Bear Tooth Pass, in Montana. I love the high alpine passes and technical stuff.
This is outside Jackson Hole. To hell with that place, I rolled though it non-stop. Outside of it though, the Tetons make it worth going through.
Wind River. Epic canyons and sweepers posted at 55mph. Why even post a suggested speed that high? I flew through this.
Sharp curves? That just means go faster. This is the Big Horn Mountain Range. (Message edited by duanelr on August 29, 2019) |

What a coincidence, the wife and I are in Yellowstone now on our 09 XT. We are staying in Cooke City near the northeast entrance. Email me at kane.bill@hotmail.com if you want to meet up. We are heading to Bozeman on Friday. |

Lots of bison in Yellowstone! And equally dangerous are the drivers that stop in the middle of the road. I try not to spend too much time next to a 1,500 lb wild animal. |

DOH! I just went past Cooke City. I'm all the way past Livingston, now. I would have loved to have done this. If you are ever in Portland PM me. Dang we were close |

No worries. I'm from Minnesota and don't typically make it to Portland. Have a great rest of your trip! |

The bike and I are at a real-deal 11,000 feet (3,350 meters). This is Beartooth Pass in South Western Montana. In the Western United States this road is motorcycle-famous. The road surface was pristine. How was that possible with harsh winters and high elevations? |

My thoughts exactly. Nothing like the roads in Minnesota. I don't know how they are so nice. |

I’m jealous! Looks like even my flat, straight Florida roads might be under water for a while, depending on what route Dorian decides to take this weekend. |

Fantastic. I'm definitely going to add those to my touring bucket list. |

If you don't know about Idaho Hwy 12, check it out. This year (and maybe next) the surface was immaculate. I mean it was like a smooth gymnasium floor, but with grip. Hwy 12 is not tight twisties, instead it's big high speed sweepers that follow a river. You can see all the way through corners most of the time which gives you the confidence to twist the throttle. It's posted 55mph, I cranked through most of it at 80-90. And it keeps going on and on, more than 99 miles. Make sure you fill up on either end because there is no longer gas in the middle at Lowell. I have to mention the scenery, it is drop-dead-gorgeous like a movie. No police this year and the traffic was very light. |

Anybody in the area of El Paso, Texas that has a 1125r and knows of some good roads to ride. |

Did the Lolo a couple years ago on the royal star, it was completely enjoyable. Yeah it's a long ways with no fuel or much of anything else. |

I finally had a problem with the bike, right at the end. It was in-town, weather was very hot, I had been running fast right up to that point, and the coolant boiled over. Next morning I put a bottle of Aquafina in it (yes, I know the caveats) and rode it 450 miles home. At home, with my earplugs out, I realized only one of the fans was working. Has anyone had to replace the left hand fan? You have to thread a rectangular molex-style connector through a round straw-sized hole. Damn, it has been a pain in the ass. C'est la vie, we're riding old bikes. |

I've done it. Just takes a little time. You just have to get the fan mount out far enough. You can unplug the cable at the fan, no pulling new one in. |
