Depends on what you want. CR is more upright like a lightning, R is more leaned over like a Firebolt. Styling is different and the CR has a longer swinging and a 76 tooth on the rear instead of a 70. Both very fun bikes in their own rights. 08s were more reliable for charging systems but all were susceptible to clutch sweep. Redoing charging system could be around $800 in parts, clutch is around $200 in parts. I have a CR for street shenanigans but I also take it on trips because it is comfortable. I have an R that I'm going to setup for the track. Damn they are fast and I love the sound. I have a Jardine on my CR and love it. |

Cool... the one i am looking at is a 2009 CR... has 5,000 miles and asking $4000... kind of nice... has a Jardine on it as well...He said there is some fading on the front brakes so he replaced the pads with "HH" pads? could the rotor be warped? |

I'd ask about the charging system and the clutch. They likely haven't been changed. You should use that in your negotiations. |

More likely that the brakes haven't been used hard enough. I've experienced both fading and a feeling of a warped front rotor on both my 2008 & 2009 1125R... In all cases it was due to my having not used the brakes hard enough and deposits building up. When I realized this and really put some heat into my front brake a few times, the feeling was significantly (90%+) diminished. |

Front brake situation is basically the same as on the XBs. Warping is extremely rare, "pulsing" is due to brake dust build up on the rotor and mounting hardware. Brake fade shouldn't be happening on the street, but maybe you are really buying a bike from Shawn Higbee then. Different pads help with the feel as the stock ones are a bit wooden, I run the EBC HHs on most of my bikes now. 4K sounds good if the charging system was already properly taken care of (EBR modified rotor), otherwise knock off a grand. |

Just get it. I like mine more after 10 years if that's possible. |

Look out for the biggest grin ever when she power wheelies and finding a totally new dimension of performance over 7,500 RPM. Still have my 12R but think she will now sit... the CR is imho the finest motorcycle I have ridden in 54 years up on two.... just do it!!! lol |

I had an Xb9SX prior to purchasing the 1125R and I sold my XB a few months after acquiring the 1125R. The power and refined feeling of the water cooled motor was my preference. There maybe some niggles with these 1125 bikes, but the Helicon is the crown jewel. It's just fantastic to wring it's neck and it keep coming back for more! |

PS on the front brake issue, I have the finned rotor and EBC HH pads. It takes some time to get those things heated up properly, but when they do look out. I find myself over brakinng easily and could run it quite bit deeper in corners if I chose to hang it out there more...but on the street I like to have a margin of error, plus blind corners kind of freak me out in my old age. |

Get it. I have about 10k on my CR. Started adding aux lights up front last spring...hit a deer on my S2...didn't ride much at all last year...got sick of looking at the CR tonight, finished the work, reassembled, took for a spin to the gas station to make sure it was full since all the meters had reset. Holy CRAP. I forgot how damned potent those bikes are. CR is lower gearing than R - I like it a LOT better for street / real-world use. The R always felt (to me) like it needed a downshift. The CR seems to always be in the right gear, rarin' to go, RIGHT NOW. I had the charging system relay recall done years ago, and haven't had an issue since. KEEP THE REVS UP. Forget the numbers on the dial - put the needle in the middle of the rev range and keep it there. This is not a 3,000 RPM bike, it likes to REV. Comfort-wise, I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam. HATED the stock ergos. Put on a Buell Select seat (1" taller), and a set of black Ulysses pegs (1" lower), kept the clubmans...and I've done 900 mile days no problem. If I had self control...I'd ride it more. But I need to keep it to a rare-ride status - if I get used to the power and the capabilities...I push it. Harder and harder. And it will easily do things that shouldn't be done on public roads. |

I wouldn't mind putting CR gearing on my R, but its too involved unfortunately. |

Really? Is it more than just a sprocket and belt? The idler and front pulley are the same, is the swing arm different? |

Blackbelt, The charging issue should be checked and resolved if not already taken care of. If the Harley fix is still in place, I would say charging system is suspect; same goes for the lousy Ducati shunt regulator. There is a procedure to test the stator; do that first. You need to check for in-range voltage and continuity. If the stator checks out but it still has the original voltage regulator, replace that with a Shindengen series V/R from Rick's; there are a couple of different opinions, but I have found that if the stator is functioning correctly, upgrading the V/R to a series versus shunt regulator will resolve charging issues; and whether you choose to install a modified rotor or not, you still need to do the V/R |

Yep the swingarm is very slightly a different length...and also a CR swingarm colored midnight blue isn't available, so it would entail painting if I wanted the swingarm to match my '08 Midnight Blue R. |

Interesting! Never knew that... I wonder why it's a different length? Very Un-Buell-like. Seems more likely Erik would re-use something already in the parts bin. LOL |

The wheelbase is unchanged IIRC, the change is to accommodate the larger CR rear pulley. Same reason the Ulysses and Lightning Long used a different frame and swingarm than a standard Lightning or Firebolt. Make each model do its specific job the best it can. |

If I ever get my all black '09 R back on the road, I MIGHT do the CR conversion if I can find the parts cheap enough. How does the change affect the speedo and gear shift indicator? if any? |
