I test-rode a bike yesterday that has been sitting for about a year or so. I don't remember any handling irregularities. The previous owner raced it a fair amount.

After getting it running, I adjusted the chain. Looking at the lines on either side of the swing arm, it appeared that there was a visible difference between the sides, so I adjusted differentially to compensate. I didn't make a major adjustment, just 5 flats of the adjuster bolt on one side.

I couldn't find my air chuck or my good pressure gauge yesterday, so I know the tires needed air, but I don't see tire pressure making that much of a difference between one side and the other.
Any thoughts?
Now, it feels seriously squirrelly in a right hand turn. Left turns are a little weird, but much better than right.

Do a sprocket to sprocket alignment or put it back the way it was and see how it rides. Look at sprockets for unusual side wear. Lots of racing usually involves crashing. Might want to look at front to rear wheel alignment also, a parallel string on both sides of the rear tire or laser should be an equal distance from the front on both sides. Have someone behind you when riding look for dog tracking. Bent, twisted forks, frames happen.

Thanks Gary. I got air in the tires tonight, will try that first thing tomorrow, then set the axle where it was and see how that feels.

I have an 8ft fluorescent tube that I (gently) clamp to the rear wheel for wheel to wheel alignment. It works pretty well to my knowledge. That will be the next step.

PS Do you play an online game called "Tanks"? I ask because of your profile pic.

I'm confused, are you talking about a 1190 cause 1125s dont have an adjustable rear axle, stock at least.

No, sometimes I come in guns blazing, mop up the mess later.
Long fluorescent tubes sounds good and quick. Yeah I'd want to be doing some sprocket to sprocket checking along with alignment check that they are in the same plain vertically as well, seen some bizarre stuff checking "used" bikes.
Check steering bearings, fork action etc. Wheel bearings are pretty notorious also. All the joys of a "new to me" bike.

100% that wrong tire pressure will make for a bad corner: (

Put a straight edge on the rear sprocket, I would never "compensate" like that by vision unless it was a 80cc mini-bike. Scary.
The rest of the checks, like steering/wheel bearings and suspension are easy and free to do.

Good luck!
