The 1125R just added to my stable has chain final drive, among other neat stuff. However, it seems to need a fuel pump. I seem to remember changing the pump in my CR without removing the swing arm, but had to pull the swing arm on my first R model to get the fuel pump out. I assume there is a difference in the swing arms. The swing arm for the chain final drive is a whole new animal... Can anyone tell me if the pump can be changed without pulling the swing arm on one of these? As far as pumps, has there been any consensus reached on the suitability of the $40 EBay pumps? | ||

I just replaced fuel pump on mine with ebr swingarm while it was still on I'm assu.ming you have the pre13 silver swingarm it is pretty similar I didn't have much room to work or a way to get the rear end up high so while I lifted bike and pushed swingarm down a friend pulled the rest of the way out and also inserted | ||

Should be the same procedure (cheat) as the rest. Use a rafter, A-frame ladder, whatever, to support the rear of the bike by the pillion peg mounts or seat frame. remove lower shock bolt. That should let the swingarm hang plenty low enough to remove the whole pump assembly | ||

Thanks for the responses, guys. It is the silver anodized swingarm, a Buell part, not an EBR part, as far as I know. The bike has the large diameter stainless exhaust headers on it with what I believe is the FMF muffler bringing up the rear. The muffler will have to come off before attempting to drop the swing arm down. Dumb question: I have never used a chain that didn’t have a conventional master link, secured by the spring clip. I see a link that looks like the pins are peened, or flared over to hold the side plate secure. Are they reusable? | ||

The bolted on 'bridge' on the swingarm is for that. Same way you install a belt without cutting it. | ||

Thanks for the responses guys. I did manage to get the pump out without removing the swing arm or chain, just lifted the rear end with the assistance of my powered overhead bi-fold shop door since everything else was previously occupied. I took two clamp bolts out of the rear brake line to move it aside to keep from crushing it between the tailpipe and swingarm. I also took two bolts out of the muffler support so it would drop down a bit. I thought I was going to have to remove the backing plate for the left side of the Woodcraft rearset pegs, as the swing arm was stopping on that, but that turned out to be enough room to get the pump out. Overall, I spent more time hunting for my largest pair of 90 degree snap ring pliers than I did getting the bike ready and pulling the pump. I have a near new pump in the frame of my CR that is waiting for me to finish the engine upgrades, so I’m going to pull that pump out and put it in the new to me ‘08 R model I’m working on, then get another pump for the CR. | ||

BTW, the exhaust on the bike is the Buell Racing system, made in England according to an engineering type drawing I got with the bike. The ECM is marked FMF tune. Edited to add that I had to rotate and wiggle the pump to find a spot where I could pull it clear of the swing arm, and for a minute or two I thought it might not come completely out with the swing arm in the position it was.
