Hello. I just repacked my Barkers yesterday. It was time. The ends still had packing but the middle was pretty much gone. I wanted to share some of the things I discovered. You can get the packing from Barkers. I don't see the need for a new tube. I bought one, but the old was in perfectly good condition and I reused it. My comments below the link is in response to the youtube video. Keep that in mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OosENy9f-OE 1) You can disconnect the pipe at the mid-pipe (remove the 4 bolts) if you do not want to mess with the headers. 2) SInce he did not show the drilling out of the rivets, I suggest using 11/32 drill bit. I started with 1/8 and took out the middle of the rivet then progressively used a larger bit until the 11/32 did the trick. You will use several bits most likely, unless mine are just esp. cheap. 3) The rivets holding the Barkers badge protrude into the can and make it hard to get the packing to slide in evenly. I used a thin piece of plastic cut from a paint tray liner to cover those protruding rivets. It let the packing slide in without snagging and I just pulled the plastic strip out when the packing was in the can. 4) Your can WILL get out of shape (circle not an oval) like his and it has nothing to do with the packing--it's just the natural shape of the can. I ended up using a floor jack and the bottom of my trailer hitch on my truck. I squeezed the can until it was oval again. Not advised it you are really concerned about the finish of your can, however the minor scratches are on the top/bottom of the can. I doubt I will even notice them. I tired wrapping the can up in a towel first, but it seemed to slide too much as the jack applied pressure. Note the holes will probably not line up the first time. You must rotate the can one way or the other, then squish again and see if they line up. It took me 4-5 tries to get it perfect for the new rivets. 5) If you don't want to struggle with the rivets, get a heavy duty rivet "gun." I got mine on Amazon. It has two handles like small pruning shears and lots of leverage to make those new rivets a piece of cake. 6) The tube MUST be fully seated at the outlet end of the can. Mine had some packing preventing it from fully seating and it cause the tube to stick out too far on the other end, thus preventing me from being able to re-connect the 4 bolts. |

The Barkers kit is great but you can get a generic kit from your local Japanese bike shop for around $20.. |

Good advice on the packing alternative. Since this is my first foray into re-packing a pipe, I am not sure if all packing comes in "pillow" form, but the Barkers "pillow" is pretty slick. Not only does it fit perfectly size-wise, but it has an adhesive strip that allows you to just roll the packing around the can and secure it with the adhesive strip. |

Also, one more note. It's supposed to come with 6 replacement rivets. Mine didn't but I had some on hand. |

Just a little bump for Chameleon. Still would like to hear more details after your valve check @ 62,000 miles.... |
