Hey all, long time lurker here. I've been a roller-coaster of emotions related to my beloved 1125r lately. I've first put it up for sale, but then realized it's probably not worth to others what it's worth to me personally... so I've decided to throw some money at it to make it comfortable. So : I ordered a set of convertibars, along with their offered clutch and brake lines, only to discover that I also will be needing an extra length throttle cable! convertibars referenced "motion pro" as a seller, but I've just contacted them and received notice that they don't offer anything for me. So : My question is : does anyone have any suggestions for me? Is my only option remaining to start calling local fabricators?

Motion Pro builds top of the line cables and tools, you would have to send them the stock cables and explain to them how far you need them extended...since you're on the right coast and Motion Pro is on the left coast...you might be better off finding a local custom shop that could make your cables ( "Hog Farm" in West Seneca???) or if you want to try and build them your self and know how to solder, Flanders ( http://www.flandersco.com/FlanCableSearch.html) supplies many of the custom parts to build cables....want to just find something that "works"???...might try ebay for a set of throttle cables for Suzuki Vstrom ( DL1000) http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-07-Suzuki-Vstrom-1000-D l1000-Throttle-Cables-Lines-JS-/162589718120?hash= item25db1a3668:g:yzwAAOSw-ldZZ3Q4&vxp=mtr
HTH...or at least gives you some ideas

Much appreciated , Nuts4mc. I contacted Motion Pro and they told me they're not taking those types of orders right now :

Their email to me :

While we do operate a custom cable shop, we are only building +/- versions of cables we currently have designs of.
We did offer cables for the earlier tubular chassis Buell applications, but have never produced a line of replacement cables for the later model Buell applications, nor do we have information documented on your stock cables. In the past for circumstances like this one, we’ve used the customers cables as sample/fitting donors, However we’ve suspended sample based orders until further notice and are no longer accepting shipments of customer cables. We apologize for the misinformation, and we’ve reached out to Convertibars to notify them of this change in Policy.

BUT : knowing that the cables for a Vstrom might work is exactly the type of inspiration i was hoping for! Thank you!!!

your welcome, BUT please be careful- you're messing with the THROTTLE...if you're new to the 1125r it is a fast bike with torque everywhere...it's that torque that makes it fun to ride fast and it's the throttle that controls the torque (not to mention you're right wrist)...the "controls" on the 1125r appear to be an afterthought ( quality is not the best)...if you're serious about using the DL throttle cables...might want to purchase the matching twist grip assy: (see ebay link below) for an "easy" upgrade.

again HTH...be smart - check your work several times (lock to lock) before you head out on the road!...good luck

I appreciate the concern. While I do overtly claim to be an imbecile when it comes to mechanical processes, my main position is that of excessive caution. When the time finally comes to get my hands dirty with this whole project, be assured that EXCESSIVE testing on the stand and in neutral will happen before it ever sees the road. I've got a softail to reduce my 2-wheel anxiety that I can hop on without being in a huge rush to get the buell back in business.

Update : In the interest of eliminating myself as a potential point of failure on cable construction, I contacted Barnett on the phone, and they told me to send them the throttle cable and they'll contact me back with their price and timeframe. I'll update here once i get the cable to them and see what they say.

Nerdrock we are in the same boat with the exact same (same color even) bikes that we will never be able to sell for a decent buck due to poor market/resale value. I saw your listing in the classifieds, mine is listed a couple days after yours.

I bought and installed the 1" higher bars from American Sportbike on my 1125R about 5 years ago. Sadly we all know that they are no longer in business. I also ordered and installed the extended clutch fluid line but never needed to change my cables.

At first i cut the zip tie at the lower channel to gain some clearance but it wasn't quite enough. After that i removed the airbox and re-routed the cables so they exit above the chassis harness just under the frame (in-between) and that did the trick. It's been like that for a few years now and has caused no problems. You will end up with some slack at the instrument cluster area when you turn the bars to full right but that was solved with a simple ziptie.

I used to work for a company in Syracuse called Fleetpride that built custom cables. I know there is one out in your area in Cheektowaga but not all of them had a cable shop. They mostly built PTO and push pull cable for snow plows that sort of thing. It's a long shot but if you still want to pursue new cables it could be a possibility.

I installed Buell CR high bars on my R, and just needed to reroute the cables. Did you try a re-route?

I appreciate the suggestions. I haven't rerouted anything yet because i'm currently in the 'planning phase'. the convertibars / brake line / clutch line are ordered (along with a seat-concepts seat kit. I have one on my TW200 and it's amazing)... and i'm probably going to hold off until it all arrives, install the convertibars first, and see how much room I have to work with.

I swear just the tiniest bit will be all i need for comfort, but we'll see how much I get. On the highway, i'm perfect when i'm riding one handed with my fingertips on the throttle, but that's not a sustainable position.

b3some : good luck with your sale. I'm so torn right now. Half of me just doesn't want to screw around with a bike that's so difficult to find support for, and the other half of me is beaming with pride to have such a blisteringly monstrous machine that's super unique in my piss-ant town. All I see are yamaha and kawasaki sportbikes, and Harleys. everywhere. The other bit of me that's proud is that it's the same bike Shawn Higbee put in 5th in the 2010 Daytona 200. His family and mine are very good friends, and I knew him when he still lived at home. He's one of our town's "local sports heroes", and his xb12r is in our local sports hall of fame. Sometimes when random people in town notice or ask me about the bike, I tell them about his antics. Me, my dad and Shawn's family used to travel out to mid-ohio to watch him race 883s and when he ran superbikes for Ferracci Ducati as well. http://www.chautauquasportshalloffame.org/shawnhigbee.php

Nerdrock thanks for the link to that story, i just read it. Must be cool to have a family friend be a local hometown motorsports hero.

I've heard of convertibars but am not familiar with them and did not know that they were made for the 1125R. Does it state how much higher they will be? If it's 1" like the American Sport Bike bars i installed i know you can make that amount up like i did with a simple re-route of the cables. I felt that i needed the clutch line so i did change that but i never needed to change the brake line. I think all i did was eliminate the p-clamp at the triple tree for some additional clearance and it has been fine for the past 5 years.

Don't get me wrong i love my white/blue 1125R as you do yours. It's the fastest best looking bike i have ever owned and has been to "The Dragon" with me many times. However for me i have become interested in another bike and this is the only 1 of my 3 bikes i will part with. Plus at 46 yrs old i feel my sport biking days are numbered and i have become intrigued by Cafe racers. Good luck with your bars.

B3Some : Yeah with the proper cables the convertibars offer a TON of adjustability, and i'm really excited about it. My situation is also close to yours, in that I have 3 motorcycles and the 1125r was first on the chopping block because of the comfort issues. But : solving that will keep it in the garage for the foreseeable future. My Tw200 would also be on the chopping block but meh, it's only worth about 2 grand, and it's a riot to thrash around town, or to search for limited-season roads on. The third is my late father's softail which has sentimental value and is immune from ever being parted with. I consider myself pretty lucky to have a wife that tolerates the 3 bikes, and adding a fourth would be frowned upon.

Mhpalin : Thank you for the photo. it's super tough to find a GOOD photo of convertibars on our bike, and i'd say that's the best one. It really shows the points you can adjust the bars, depending on clearances.

Holy moly I'd planned on getting everything but the throttle done this weekend, and this clutch line replacement IS A NIGHTMARE. it doesn't even seem like at one hard to reach point there's enough clearance for the end of the cable!!

Success!. Ok. Hot tip for clutch line: push it upwards at the 'choke point'. There's friction on the cable as it's held in place normally, but if you raise it up a bit, you're good. Zip tie your old Line to your new one and pull it through at the same time.
