When removing the cylinders, how do you get the last of the coolant out of the cylinders, so it doesn't spill down into the crankcase? If it's something I overlooked, forgive me, I'm tired and hurting! The engine is out of the bike. | ||

Any time you open a water cooled engine you'll get coolant into you oil. That why you must change your oil each and every time you open one up. | ||

I normally drain the oil before disassembly of any motor, and some, like the small block Chevies that occupied my time and wallet in my younger days, had pipe plugs in the crankcase which would drain the coolant level below the head gasket surface. The cylinders were integral with the crankcase, so once the heads were off, that was as low as it got. I guess I'll flush the crankcase and sump with clean oil after I pull the other cylinder. |
