After searching through the subforum, I don't see any definitive stator option. Rick's seems the most popular, but that seems to be because of popularity not reliability. Most of the threads have had to replace their Rick's, Twin, or rewound stator multiple times before either landing a good one, having other voltage issues, or giving up (not posting about it). It is a lot of work to replace these stators, is the best case scenario just 'hope for the best'? Seems to me that no matter the option, after upgrading the rotor and VR, I will likely have to replace the stator multiple times. That doesn't seem like a fix, but a 'for life', problem. At this time, it is still cheaper than a new bike, but I see the time, hassle, and repair cost stacking up quickly. Is there any consensus on which stator to buy? |

My conclusion after way too many hours of research: The stator fails due to heat. The only way to completely resolve this is the drilled EBR stator rotor, which has a tiny hole drilled to spray the stator with oil for additional cooling. Usually the stator is already damaged by heat so its life was shortened. How much damage depends on way too many variables. Some take the risk and reuse with new rotor and others just replace it all at once to be done with it. Ideally, the updated rotor, new stator, and the series VR, you should not have any more issues. |
