Hello! I recently purchased a 2008 1125r. I replaced the battery as the old one was toast. I checked to make sure charging system worked right, it does. I do notice there is drain that will take the battery down 1/2 volt in a day or so and it is coming from the "Ignition Key" circuit. When I pull that fuse, the drain goes away. This makes no sense as the schematic in the service manual shows it as a switch that is off or on... Has anyone found something else in that circuit that drains a small amount of current? If I can't figure this out, I am going to install a small switch to kill that circuit's power... Thanks in advance!

Use your kill button to shut the bike off then turn the key off this is a known issue

Thanks, I will give this a shot! If it is the problem, does anyone know a permanent fix?

I do believe if you can find a ex Buell dealer they can flash your ECM with the latest soft ware Myself I just use the kill button all the time even on my 09 that doesn't have that problem becomes a habit I started doing it on all my bikes lol.

The bike has the EBR ECM/ECU, not sure if that makes a difference...

Thought this was an issue with the instrument cluster, not the ECM/ECU?

Well, using the switch vs the key has stopped the battery drain. Weird, it makes no sense when you look at the schematic. Anyway, thank you for the tip!

It was a problem with the cluster on the '08s. I had an electrical problem similar. Got roasted by the local mod here for bringing up the electrical 'niggle' but in the end I was right.

Cluster was replaced with an '09 version and no problems since.....

Permanent fix is an '09 cluster. I got my '08's cluster replaced under warranty but that was back in '10--you're on your own sourcing one at this point.

I bought a new IC w/the later software (6.2?) within the last year or so from lance651 at a discounted price. Good price, excellent service.

Check his eBay listings, or contact him directly here on the forum.

Incidentally, my '09 had an IC with 6.1 version software. The new one has 6.2.
I put the one with 6.1. on the '08, which had version 4.3 or something like that...

I paid $1500 for the bike. I am just going to use the kill switch for now. If it ever changes or gets worse, I'll look into a cluster. Thanks again for the tips guys!
