I'm looking for suggestions on how to prevent crud from the pipes on the stock muffler getting on the rear rim and brake. I understand some of y'all have fashioned DIY shields to divert the flow out and away. How have you attached them to the muffler body? Any photos would be much appreciated. DB | ||

I bought some aftermarket 'tips' that were built by a bueller in England. he posts here some i think. they work well and actually look good. there's just a little curve outward on them to divert the exhaust. price was reasonable. i'll search on BWB and see if its here... I looked for my old post - couldn't find it What I did is got a pre-bent stainless 90 degree elbow and cut it in half. They apparently don't offer the 90 anymore, so you'll need to get the 180 or a couple of 45's: http://www.mandrelbends.com/mandrel-bends/304-stainless-steel-18-gauge.html You need to stretch it just a little. That was a PIA and also broke the tubing expander I was renting. So maybe mild steel would be a better choice. There was enough material that I tapped the stainless and put in a set screw (hidden) with a locknut to keep it from backing out.  | ||

I used 2" 16 ga 6061 Aluminum from these guys (90 degree bend)about $16 (buy more than just (2)!) http://www.mandrelbends.com/mandrel-bends/6061-aluminum-16-gauge/2-00-aluminum-3-00-radius-16-gauge-90-degree-mandrel-bend.html a) if you use the HF tubing expander- lube the "lead screw" with heavy grease or it could seize and stay stuck in your tubing. ( you have to expand the tube to fit over the "stubs") b) a band saw works best in the "cut and fit" process when adapting it to the bike. c) Hi Temp RTV is used to "retain" the tips to the original stubs...mine has been on for years d) note the "angle" of the tube where it goes up against the muffler...it is not 90 degrees to the bore of the tube...kindy tricky to measure..a file can be used to take small "bites" to get it "right" e) Raw Aluminum doesn't look that good on the exhaust...some high temp black paint before you "RTV" it to the stubs make it less noticeable. f) let the RTV "dry" overnight hth  | ||
