Hey BWB. Picked up an '09 1125CR with around 8500k and electrical problems for a 'steal'. Diagnostics pointed toward a bad stator so I went ahead and ordered a stator from Rick's along with a CE 605 SB R/R from roadstercycle.com. Likely order the EBR rotor soon too. Upon inspection, the stator I received from Rick's appears to be damaged but I'm no expert and would like a second opinion before I decide to possibly send it back. I'm not sure what the metal on the outside of the stator does (I'm no mechanic), but some of it's missing. Will this effect performance/the life of the stator? Send it back? Nah, everything's fine? Thanks in advance.

It looks to me like the rotor is rubbing on the stator, maybe Ricks sent the previous owner one that was too big? If memory serves correct there should be like an 1/8" or so between the two. Does the rotor have corresponding damage? |

the lamination (the thin section of iron/steel stacked together to make up a "pole"....think of a "Master" series pad lock, made up of thin steel stampings) are wound with copper wire and will cause a current to be"produced" in the copper wires when the magnets in the rotating "flywheel" (aka "Rotor")are passed over the end of the "steel/iron poles" - the Rotax engine in the Buell uses a "Inside-out" rotor and stator configuration. ( old bikes have a small flywheel with magnets attached to the "core" and the stator was a winding with poles surrounding on the outside...it made the cases of the old bikes quite large in diameter as electrical demands increased)...in your top picture the ends of the poles are "bare" so the magnetic force isn't insulated from the "core" of the lamination...in the bottom pix ,some "overspray " is evident...you might want to send the pix to Rick's and see if they will allow you to "buff off" the remaining epoxy/paint from the ends of the stator poles....looks like you got a stator finished off on Friday afternoon by someone wanting to leave for a cold one...hope this helps |

It also looks like something is out of round to me. It's wearing more on one side then the other. |
