As you're reading through the "Development of the RW 750" section, this sentence: "To get the extra time he quit a very nice job at Harley-Davidson. (Actually, he tried to quit, but Jeff Bleustein made him take an extended leave of absence so he would..." picks up again in the middle pf the paragraph following the pictures of Erik and the 750 and the barn complex. ..."have the option of coming back after six months. He was not coming back.) His parting was on exceptionally good terms—something that would prove important in the future. To develop a race bike Erik needed cash, so he sold his duplex and found a run-down farm to rent in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. The farm was a long way from any neighbors and had a nice garage building as well as a barn. It was an ideal place to build and test a race bike. He would generate some income by stepping up his Pittsburgh Performance Products business." Probably just a copy/paste uh-oh. Got confused and it's a great story so I wanted to make sure others followed. (Message edited by jeepinbueller on October 20, 2015) |

Yeah.. that seems to be a pretty-obvious case of plagiarism. What's the name of the book, and who's the author? (It'd be easier to support if we knew that info!) |

send mail to Dave Morning Dave, We found the story at a dealer from us online http://www.whitehorsegear.com/media/pdfs/buell.pdf we took it from there website and as you can see there is no mentioning of any author on that website we assumed as they are a American compant that is solved. We now made a mentioning on the page. We have a agreement with them that they can use our content and we can use there’s, so our marketing people just used it and posted it. AS we have no problem mentioning any author or book titels or to sell books we have sold many of your books already many to many buellers around the world with lot’s of pleasure. Only we have asked court many times but it for a long time out of print. Please let me know what you would like us to mention we have now mentioned Written by Court Canfield and Dave Gess, for the book 25 Years of Buell. and please keep this info online for the many new buellers that have no idea about the history. There is not much info around from Erik Buell, And I think he likes to share this too to the new crowd. We get many customers new ones in our workshop that we tell the story how it all begins, they can read your story in the books we have laying around for them. Many ask us if they can buy the book but then we have to disappoint them. I hope for sake of the people who are new to buell we can keep this online Dave.. Otherwise we have to rewrite our self. We are simple people and have 1 goal keep Buell alive and that is what we do with a small team of 6 people look here: http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/over_ons.asp Please make this happen we have no bad intensions. I have a copy of the book, and was extremely fortunate to have acquired it when the pricing was "reasonable". Now (in true collector's fashion) the book has become absurdly expensive (if you can even locate a copy). I was in regular communication with Mr. Canfield when he was divesting himself of much of his Buell memorabilia on eBay. It took a while for the "light bulb" to go on , when I finally realized who he actually is ( a big DUH on my part). He became frustrated with his encounters on eBay, and suddenly stopped selling and I haven't heard a "peep" from him since. I was really hoping to sit down and have a "beer" or two, but alas that didn't happen. Oh well, maybe someday---- |

IMO, if the book is no longer in print, then the authors don't stand to lose anything by it being shared through alternative means, so presumably there's no harm being done to them. That said, the final call comes down to the authors or whomever holds the copyright. I would hope that they would not be opposed to people being exposed to their work, provided it's done in a free manner that gives credit where it's due. Since Dris has added the requisite bylines, hopefully the copyright holders will be amenable to the sharing of their work. |
