Hey guys,I have a 2009 1125r stock, beside k&n filter, how do I tell if I should replace my clutch plates?, my clutch has become more difficult to operate the past few weeks. When I pop it into first it it very easy to stall almost right away, getting off at a red light anywhere seems to be a struggle to fight with the bike from stalling. Other then that my bike is running great, I did the obrien slave cylinder replacement, and bled the clutch line, just to rules those out. Any other suggestions or ideas ? Should I do the barrnett clutch kit ? Thank-nick |

A dragging clutch is not normally an indication of bad clutch plates. You may want to check the adjustment of the spherical nut and then bleed the system again. |

Could you give me a little more insight onto the adjustment of the spherical nut? |

The entire job is done for the slave cylinder, how do I check the torque on the spherical nut, with a he wrench holding it in place?, I have the torque wrench but need some ideas on how to check the torque |

you need a wrench with an open end (crows foot on top/custom box wrench on the bottom...for base cylinder nuts (for an old IT490)...make the offset as short as possible as the longer length will add (multiply) the torque effort....I assume (not a good word to use as: assume= makes an ass out of u and me) that you know to hold the inner shaft with an allen wrench ( 5mm I think??) and place the open end wrench over the allen wrench to tighten the nut..tighten the nut to about 8 ft lbs (96 in lbs)...how much "travel" do you have up at the lever???...running custom levers???...sometimes we add new levers and adjust the levers to "feel" good, but it fails to travel enough to make the clutch slave cylinder do it's job to make the clutch dis-engage...
here's a you tube movie on a clutch slave cylinder repair ...about 12 minutes in the mechanic uses a "box type" wrench to tighten the spherical nut.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCEetGIc9ks if you finally give in and purchase a new clutch plate kit (Barnett...Al has them at American Sport Bike)...strongly suggest you install the new plates with the OEM springs...the barnett springs are very strong...( soak the new plates overnight before you install) hope this helps |
