Since spring I just a slight hesitation off idle and the most bottom of the rpm range. Bike did fine but it was noticeable. I pulled the K&N filter and checked the throttle bodies and found quite a bit of build up at the seats of the throttle butterfly's. Than opened them completely and found the backs were caked with carbonized fuel. I had some sea foam spray I use on my generator and sprayed a coating on them and down the intake tract. Let it sit for a few hours and ran the bike and am now presently rewarded with a smooth idle and almost all the low speed lurching my bike produced from the time purchased it. Bike seems to run cooler also. Would it be recommended to run the Seafoam fuel additive to clear injectors also? Does that stuff work? I never have bought into the additives and the spray just softened the grime and I still had to wipe it off with paper towels. | ||

Seafoam is magical for keeping fuel fresh--I've had carbureted bikes sit for a year with Seafoam-treated fuel and run flawlessly when fired up. My Seafoam-treated leaf blower sat for about 18 months and it was a little grouchy, so somewhere between 12-18 months is where it starts to lose its effectiveness. I can't speak for how well it does to clean fuel injectors, but considering that it's not expensive and definitely won't hurt anything (if used in the proper quantity--about 1/4 can for a 4.5 gallon tank), I would give it a shot. | ||

Ain't nothing like a happy engine. I've found, if you exercise it regularly so the fuel is fresh, and use a "Top Tier" fuel like Chevron or Shell, I've experienced (and read from many sources) that the additives they contain removes deposits from intake valves, injectors, throttle plates, etc. If you let it sit idle for any period of time, you should add a stabilizer like Seafoam or Stabil. | ||

That stuff is MAGIC. I use it in EVERYTHING !! Great for injectors.. Put 1/2 bottle of it in your car 500 miles before an oil change, The other 1/2 in the tank, you will be amazed. I use it before ANY oil change in my vehicles, & as stated great for storage. | ||

Seafoam guy here. I dont have room for my push mower in the garage so it sits outside uncovered year around. In fact I rarely use I because I have a zero turn that gets close enough to everythin I dont need to trim. So this push mower has sat in heat, rain, buried in several feet of snow etc...for nearly two years untouched. I go out last spring thinking it's probably seized up, I give it a pull and bam! Fired up first try. I dunno whats in seafoam but its good shit. Two year old gas that had a shot of seafoam in it and it ran like I used it yesterday. Needless to say everything gets seafoamed for the winter. | ||

So how should I use the seafoam?, gas tank, and then spray it in the throttle bodies ?! | ||

Seafoam was initially developed for the military, it was used for LONG term storage & SEAward shipping of engines of all sorts. They make a host of great products check out the site If you have a high mile vehicle w noisy engine... add a bottle in gas & one in oil, & go for a 100 ish mile drive. You will be hooked!! | ||

I've heard its a mixture of diesel fuel, transmission fluid and naptha. Who knows? | ||

I did the fuel mix and it was an instant improvement and the bike is running smoother than ever. Should have done this long ago. | ||

Seafoam: Just did the 1 oz per gallon after manually cleaning the throttle bodies with the spray and some paper towels. There was still carbon on the valves. Not a lot but some. I will take a look when I burn this tank off and see if it actually blasted that away that crap. I did the 1|1 oz/gallon in the fuel as an attempt to not have to pull the injectors to clean them. I think it worked. | ||

Great tip Nikoff! Gonna try it on mine. Similar issues (I think) so hoping it will help. This and new tuned ecm and she should be running great! |
