Hi all, just bought my 1125r last week. It was overdue for an oil change so I picked up some rotella T but wasn't able to find a filter nearby and am having it shipped. I didn't realize that there was a second drain under the crankshaft and only drained the main plug. Then I put in a little under 2.5l into the tank. I rode it about a mile and checked the levels. Straight up, it seemed to be well over the fill line. On the kickstand it is between min and max. How much oil is usually drained from the crankshaft? Will I cause damage to the bike if I ride it moderately for 300 miles before the filter gets here and I am able to flush the system again? Any other tips for a new 1125r owner? You will be fine to ride it w/out the filter being replaced yet There's definitely some that comes out the right side, but all you've done is a mix a little more old oil with the new than you would with a correct change It'll be fine. The oil filter has a longer service interval than the oil, so might not even need the filter anytime soon. Oil is every 6200 miles, filter is 12400 miles. |

about 3 qt. oil there is a third place to check its buy the other drain hole its got 5 bolts to take out and a filter screen in there |

Woops, careful. I don't think Rotella is intended for motorcycle use. http://www.shell.com/rotella/products.html I hate splitting hairs on most things but this does make a difference. You want to use oil that is API rated for motorcycle/ATV use. It should have JASO-MA emblem on the back. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.ph p?ubb=showflat&Number=2647970 Take the following worth a grain of salt: In an emergency I knowingly put Rotella in my bike and a couple hundred miles later the clutch drug badly. |

the T6 ( 5-40wt) runs too thin down here in the heat of the south west...had balance gear failure...was it from poor heat treating or lack of lubrication???( see pix in this post): http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/693543.html?1353426484 switch'd over to 20-50w Quicksilver (from Mercury Marine) available at WalMart same price as the T6...bike/clutch/gearbox seems to like it. http://www.quicksilver-products.com/street/lubrica nts/ I doubt it is JASO MA certified ( certification costs $$$)...but they claim it meets or exceeds the requirement |

Shell Rotella T6 is for motorcycle use, it cares JASO-MA rating for motorcycle usage The added benefit is that it is used in heavy duty diesels, so it's got metal conditioners for long life you don't find in most oils today (Message edited by sprintst on July 13, 2015) |
