So I finished the install and noticed that at idle I'm charging 14.4? I only installed the Rick's stator with the stock rotor ( I know...I know). I still have the Harley fix and was wondering should I be worried that it's so high at idle? |

14.4 is about the max voltage you want to apply to a glass mat battery. if you bring the revs up and it goes up much beyond 14.6 its too high. This will shorten the battery life. I will look at posting the vr test procedure for you later. ( I presume that you don't have the testing manual.. modding for the switching VR may be worth while.. |

So I went out for about an hour ride today and it never went over 14.4, it hovered between 14.1-14.4. But at idle it does the same thing. From what I remember it use drop into the 13's at idle. I have a small trip planned for this weekend about 1500kms or so, should I be concerned? Any opinions would be welcomed! |

You should have bought several if you are going to use the stock rotor. |

Paul your readings are all good. The VR is likely ok. If you have not installed either a switching regulator, or the oil jet, you may be looking at replacing it later. The switching regulator eases the load on the stator when demand is not high, the stock vr is always at stator max ( the excess dumped to ground ) the HD fix is junk, Happily I have an '08 but have been considering a switching regulator. short term ( trip soon ) just ride it. consider this (Message edited by oldog on July 09, 2015)http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/766251.html?1436312243 (Message edited by oldog on July 09, 2015) |

Thanks for the advice. I didn't buy the new rotor because I plan on doing the mod myself in the winter. I've been a machinist for 20 years and have a five axis cnc to do the mod myself. I just needed the bike working for my trip this weekend. |

One thing to consider Paul, be careful of the size of the oil jet, there was a post where an owner DIYed his and went big on the jet hole, result he burnt up a cylinder head.. |
