New to the board here guys, just purchased my Buell- a 2009 in arctic white with 3500 miles out of Iowa. As I wait tediously over the next couple of weeks for it to get shipped here to California ("importing" it is a whole other topic) what do I need to be thinking of in terms of necessary modifications? What were the issues in 2009 and are there still parts out there to address them? Stator replacing? Solenoid removal? What about the ECM? From what I have been told this bike is 100% stock. It was ridden for a few years then never touched for the most part. So what do you seasoned Buellers recommend? Thanks guys! Cant wait to get on it! |

Updated rotor (twin motorcycles is the only one I know of), Ricks stator, Race ECM, Oberon clutch slave cylinder is a definite must. Since its new, I'd just wait until sh$t hits the fan... keep in mind those are definite upgrades! |

The charging system rotor is a for sure!! If you do it soon Enough the stock stator will be fine and there will be no need to upgrade it. I would for sure recommend getting the ecu tuned or replaced as well as the difference In both smoother drivability at low speeds and cooler operation temps is very noticeable. The clutch slave will likely leak at some point and the Oberon unit is a great upgrade. All of these are available from twin motorcycles in the UK. |

My stator went at 2,000 miles. After the warranty replacement I did this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBYEYGJfyBw&feature =youtu.be The electrical system is much happier this way. I have 22,000 miles and no disappointments. The CE 605 voltage regulator is a better design. The oil jet rotor and and CE 605 are the ultimate fix. It hates to be in traffic and loves to be at 3800 RPMs or better. A battery tender is a must have. You may put in 3.0 quarts of oil rather than 2.7. |

First off thank you everyone for the advice! I have researched all those parts and have them bookmarked. The dealer told me this bike was stock, but i'll see what if anything has been done to it when it arrives. As to No_rice, I got it from a harley/ indian dealership in Cedar Rapids |

That was my favorite color scheme on the 1125R. Looks like a nice find. |

Congrats on your purchase! I've never seen a white one in person, so you have a pretty rare bike. If you want to significantly improve performance and reliability get the Stage 1 kit, and modified rotor from Twin Motorcycles, updated clutch cylinder and delete the charging system harness/relay catastrophe that was probably installed as a recall. You won't need that once the charging system has been properly upgraded. The clutch upgrade can wait, but the stock charging system WILL fail at some point so you should get it out of the way first for piece of mind. |

Maybe some SOC or Flexiglass fairings These are my SOC fairings. I have the Flexiglass ones too, I just like the look of these for my project. A Keda RT3 Exhaust with matching ECM would go a long way as well. I would also go with a fender eliminator, cleans the tail up real nice.

Really does clean the lines up from the pods a bit without obfuscating the aluminum and steel beneath. |

Wow everyone thank you so much for all of the responses. As an update I got the Buell into Cali a couple weeks ago, got it all doctored up to register here and had some fun riding it. Right now it's at Harley for it's first service. Per the cluster it never got it's 1000 mile service performed so I figured I would have the one guy there who works on Buell's take a look at everything. (They told me they are under contract to work on all of the Buell's until the end of 2016 after which they will stop. Not sure if anyone is really relying on the Harley dealers at this point, but just thought I'd share what I heard.) So to summarize everything you all have said- and what I researched before purchasing.. it's the electrical system that must be addressed first. As soon as I get the bike back i'll be tearing into to see what has and hasn't been done on that front. Again thank you all for the advice. |
