Battery is new and showing full charge. Both terminals connected well. Bike has not been sitting. Turn the key and the gauges light up, the fan makes that swishing noise. But no headlight, no running light, nothing. I tried resetting the throttle position thing, no good. All the fuses in the fuse box are good. When I try to re-set the throttle thing, when I push the start button, I get a very quiet little beep when I first push the button. Then no more beeps. Also have a really weird sound coming from the relay box (if that's what you call it, four relays fit into a box just like the fuse box) when I squeeze the front brake lever. No funny sound when I press the rear brake pedal. Solenoid is connected and looks good. Any ideas? I was already having charging problems but now I can't even get the starter to engage. |

Bad relay maybe or possibly bad ignition switch wiring. Do some wiggle testing. |

One time I tried to remove the fuse for the front lights, and run the bike with no front lights , so that the battery gets charged faster............... BUT the starter did not turn and could not start the engine..also the lights were off........So check again the Lights FUSE |

Swap the black tyco relay with one of the grey relays. That relay opens and sends power to the starter solenoid and then the contacts rest together to give you power to your headlights. I would also check the ground at the steering neck and the one where the battery grounds to the frame. A poor ground can cause all types of havoc on your bike. |

I have to take the wife out to dinner, but if you haven't sorted this out by the time I get a chance to review the electrical schematic, I'll take a good look. If I do say so myself, I'm pretty good with electrical problems. (electronic, not so much...) In the meantime, follow the advice above, and check the relays and grounds. |

OK sounds good. I was wrong, there IS a headlight, but no tail light. No brake light. I crossed the starter solenoid and it spun the starter right over, but no start. Then I swapped the battery over to the Concours and took it for a ride, it has been sitting up with charging issues of its own and I didn't want the carbs to foul up. Battery is most certainly good. I'll swap the battery back over at daylight and swap relays, wiggle around...I've done nothing since I last rode it, except un-do the Harley relay. I put it back and tried just to see, but still no start. I have to have disconnected something. (Message edited by coffee_brake on June 27, 2015) |

Still sounds like a grounding issue. Check and see if the solenoid is being triggered when you press the switch. If not then start by swapping the 2 relays and see what happens. The ground at the frame by the forks is a common problem. |

Well damm. I am a horse's butt. You're darn right it was a grounding issue, I didn't put the ground to frame under the seat back on! Duh, I'm sorry, I really am. That was a stupid mistake and I wasted your time. |

Not a waste of time fella. We are here to help. Now you have a bit more knowledge to pass on the next time someone has this issue. People have helped me in the past so I say pass it along. |
