Just recently I've been having problems with the bike randomly not starting and a couple times its died going down the road. Generally I cycle the key off then on and it fires right up. I know there's been a few posts on ignition switches. Is there a common place it lets go? Could I replace it all with one of those wireless setups?
More than likely, your ignition switch contacts are starting to fail. I believe I've read on this forum that 30amps passes through those contacts.
It is possible to take apart the ignition switch and rebuild it.
You should also check the harness between the ignition switch and the fairing stay. There have been some on this board that have found cuts into the insulation from the tight routing of the harness through this area.
I get bored sometimes. I did have replace my switch once because the wiring broke at the base of the switch. You can solder them back on. I purchased the components to make my own, It was a lot cheaper than the motogadget m-lock. If you go that route I can help ya.
I have re-soldered the wires to the switch 3 or 4 times now.(2008 R) The first time, I also relieved the fairing stay's inside edges.
Now I'm sure it's due to the 1125's tight turning radius. The large sweep of the bars is hell on the wiring. My 1190RS and both the 1190 RX/SX have about half the sweep.
I have never seen current damage to the contacts, only broken wiring.
