I have a loud knock in my 08 1125r I replaced the rotor but and tourqued to 300 but the knock is still there and doesn't even sound like its coming from the ignition cover maybe valves?? I need a starting point other than just ripping the motor out and going completely through it and ideas?? |

early (2008) 1125r had issues with the balancer gear just next to the rotor...the heat treating was wrong...or the gear was machined incorrectly... 1) when you had the rotor off did you notice the "face" of the gears near by? 2) have you pulled the exhaust and pulled the "sump" to see if there is any metal in the screen? The gears are right next to the rear cam chain guide/tensioner...any foreign material will get picked up by the timing chain ( acting like an elevator) and wear the "slipper"...here's an old post with pictures...my '08 had the problem...like you, I thought it was the rotor nut, until I opened her up... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/636663.html picked up replacement parts from ebay...so far she's running fine |
