I have been toying with the idea of a cannonball run style ride from Wisconsin to Texas when the weather allows come this spring. To aid in longer fuel stops I am thinking about removing the rear seat and fabricating an auxiliary fuel tank. The tank would mount the same as the rear seat and the fuel logistics from the aux tank to the main tank would be done by gravity and the vent port on the top of the frame to the right of the fuel filler. I already know that that aux tank will be higher than the existing fuel cap and could make for a mess if old habits die hard and the main fuel cap would be removed if the fuel line was above that cap. I am up for thoughts theories on this idea. |

If you are serious about range extending, I would address the camshaft issue to increase the engine efficiency and or modify the existing frame tank with welded wings on both sides. The wings could be shaped quite aesthetically. It could easily add 12-15 liters and carry the fuel safely in a central position. |
