Just purchased a 2009 CR with 850 miles. I've been reading a lot of the threads and got an overload of info. I basically would like to know some opinions from you guys on what you have done to keep the bike in good running condition. I just purchased the charging rotor (waiting for it to come in) and need to do the recall work. Also, I like the FMF exhaust, but it is nearly impossible to find. Thoughts... |

If you got the modified rotor from EBR then you don't need to do the recall(which doesn't really work anyways). I would recommend getting the EBR Clutch Actuator, the stock one will end up weeping eventually no matter what. http://www.erikbuellracing.com/store/models/1125r/ ebr-clutch-actuator-cylinder-kit.html |

My opinion - Keep it stock. Change that rotor to fix the charging issue, get a Race ECM for stock exhaust to improve fueling, and enjoy the fantastic motorcycle as is. Maybe make a few minor tweaks to adjust comfort for you like different seat and footpegs. I have 20k miles on my R, it is bone stock except for the Race ECM and seat, I find it to be perfect for long distance touring. |

Some early production 2009 CRs were recalled for an issue with the rear cylinder cam chain tensioner. It is highly recommended to get done to prevent engine damage. That was the only recall on the 09 CR. Your Buell dealer can check your VIN to see if your bike is one of the few that needed it. |

Not and expert, as some of these guys are, but I did the following: Race Ecm - EBR for new pipe Air box mod - XB cover with gas cap vent screen, the cover was dynomatted, removed inner box, added k&n filter Deans custom exhaust RT3, great service and even got a personal call Bike starts, idles, runs, and sounds great

My '09 is totally stock. 10k miles, reliable, fun, more than any mortal really needs on public roads. I had a stator go bad, under warranty. New stator (factory), relay harness, new battery, all free. No issues since. Rev it over 4k and it'll be fine. I put Ulysses pegs on it because I have long legs. Buell Touring seat, same reason. Buell heated grips because I'm too dumb to come in out of the cold. HID low beam, LED high beam, 2010 factory LED taillight, American Sport Bike seat pin quick release kit. That's it. I'm with Froggy - get it, leave it stock, ride it, get to know it. I suspect you'll be just fine with it just the way it is - it's one hell of a motorcycle. |

The fueling with the race ecm is far better than the stock EPA regulated map. Is it a 'must do' if your bike is stock, no, but it will make it run better. If you have any exhaust changes made, then it is a 'must do' item. |

Indeed. Funny enough 04colly says no need for a Race ECM, yet his profile says his ECM was reprogrammed for a race tune, basically the same thing as a Race ECM. |

Still no need for one. I tune my stock one. It's not hard to do at all. |

My tune is 100% custom. I'm still working on dialing it in. No need in wasting 300 on a ecm that can sort of get you close when you can buy TunerPro RT for like 70 bucks and a tune from xoptiinside.com for 50 and then fine tune it. |

Thanks for the info. I Am not very mechanically inclined, just basic oil change stuff. I had a tl1000r and love the way that bike sounded with the Yoshi exhaust, so that is why I want a new exhaust. I have listened to the keda ones a few more times and I like it, just didn't like the design( although I think it was the unfinished prototype) that looked like rough unfinished welded pipes. 04colly I like the black, was that powder coated? When I get the exhaust I will probably get the ebr ecm just so I don't have to mess with any mapping. |

Also, in order to do the k&n intake upgrade, do I have to modify the intake stacks? |

The black one is ceramic coated. If you saw the ones from the exhaust shootout, yes, those were prototypes from more than 5 years ago. This is what you'd typically get from me now, less the polishing job on this one. Not perfect, but certainly serviceable. No, stacks are not required for the K&N filter, it's a drop in deal, although I ran a stock filter for the last 3 years I had my 1125. EBR tuned it with the stock filter, so that's what I switched back to. It worked well. (Message edited by d_adams on December 04, 2014) |

I found a cotton gauze filter for the 1125. It isn't cheap but it is better than the k&n |

Thanks Dean, it looks good to me. Has anybody had a voltage failure message? Went to crank the bike and it hesitated for a second, said voltage failure but started right up after that. It has happened to me 3 or 4 times now... |

I do when it is too cold and the bike drains the battery down too far when attempting to start. |

3500 miles, race ecm, deans pipe, airbox mod and new color - just like black, but hanging on to the red as well. Bike screams as it should. |

PB, Looks good. I liked the red better, IMO. Is there a problem if if rains with the airbox mod? |

Is there a reason you put the stock mirrors back on? |

Thanks. Rain could be a problem - I carry a couple pieces of gorilla duct tape under seat. Bars are changed, rise kit for street from American, went back original mirrors cause I'm blind, and little mirrors made judging distance of followers difficult.

They turn you into a parachute If you've ridden both a Firebolt, and a Lightning...there's your difference. I much prefer the clubmans on my CR, mainly because of what the motorcycle IS. My Ulysses? deserves high bars. The CR? You need to be down, out of the wind, ready to GO. |

This is my first Buell experience. My last bike was a 1999 tl1000r. For some reason, I always had a preconceived notion about Buells. |
