I mean I probably suck but my buddies cbr600 was beating me every time. I was kind of ashamed of myself and was hoping the people watching weren't blaming the Buell. Anybody got experience running these things in a straight line and have any pointers?
What are your times? a good drag racer can hit mid to low 10s. Check out some of deanh8s videos on youtube. My best so far has been 11.19. It is hard to launch because of the short wheelbase. I can't seem to break 1.9 or high 1.8 on th 60. Strapping the front end helps. I don't wanna burn out my clutch so I wheelie control using throttle, instead of the clutch. This is probably what's holding me back.
If you have some balls and hold the wheel in the air through the first 4 gears, then you can run high to Mid 10's with a stock bike. If you have a performance exhaust and the EBR race ECM you can get low 10's, if you are really good high 9's. If you ride a cr then with a exhaust and ECM you could get low 9's if you are really good. The 1125r should always win against a 600. But hey at the end of the day, a bike is only as fast as it's rider.
It was my first time. I don't wanna burn up the clutch either. Open rides are next friday. I think I will go again just to see if revving to 4.5 or so and riding out the clutch in first helps.
Check out the drag racing forum if you haven't already. The guys that lurk there do the drag thing and can probably help out. Littlebutquick is still around - he races quite a bit. For me, mostly grid launches and yeah, about 6K and try not to dump the clutch - a little lift in 1st and 2nd is about all my wee balls can deal with given the traffic and turns and whatnot. I did switch to a Brembo MC a while back and that seemed to help with clutch feel.
Launch is everything, don't ever wait for the green light. Hint #1 Short shift. Power isn't at 11k in first or 2nd gear. Rev limiter = major loss of time. Hint #2 Make sure you love your bike a little at the line, you know dry hump the air box! Weight at the rear of the seat is only good at the beginning of your tuck in 3rd gear. hint #3 Enjoy it. You should be beating stock 1000.
I am not the fastest out there, but I am proud of my times. My fastest 1/4th on a 08 1125r was 9.987, I have the drummer exhaust and the ebr ecm. That is the fastest I have ever gone, the thing is you really have to keep your weight forward and really work it in the first 2 gears. Im exciting to see what my bike can do when i finish my rebuild with the 1190cc kit.
I don't do much straight line, but here is a vid of me a couple years ago, this was the only time I've had the 1125 at the track and my 4th pass of the night.
