09'R looking to put new pads and rotor on the rear. Front looks good/feels good so I'm leaving it for now. My rear brake started chirping when I would brake, then started squealing, and now appears to be dragging. Pads look worn and the rotor shows abnormal wear (scratches/buildup). I plan to clean the rear caliper and replace if required (I'm aware they cannot be rebuilt). I'm looking for suggestions on pads and rotor options for the rear, and an explanation would be great; not just "buy X because its awesome". I ride 2UP 50% of the time, but any hard braking is done when I'm solo. I admittedly use my rear brake more than some, but I can make a controlled stop quickly and use engine/front/rear to bring me to a halt. American Sport Bike has EBC pads and stock rotor. EBR has squat for the rear pads, and unless its okay to swap to the new rear rotor (though it suggests it may be for chain drive only?), they don't have a rear rotor. What should I get and where should I get it? Thanks everyone, |

I have the EBR rear rotor on a a belt driven CR. The rotor diameter is smaller so the entire pad isn't used. The whole friction area of the rotor is covered so it still works well. |

That small rear rotor is for the chain drive kit as the stock rotor diameter is too big for the repositioned caliper. Glad it works for you though. Tim |

I've run the EBC HH's for a couple years now on the rear. Great pads IMO. Stock setup otherwise. I'm about the size of two normal people (6'8" - 265), so even in spirited riding (non-track mind you), they have worked really well. Dirty - yes. but my rims are black and it just blends in... I grabbed mine on amazon recently for a great price and super fast shipping. As for rotor, i don't think there is likely any improvement available. the race version from EBR is just a lightened stock unit. lighter=better, but not better stopping just due to rotor. That would be pads and maybe upgraded caliper like those above suggested. I know there is/was a "wave" option, but haven't heard any feedback on it. If your rotor is true/not-pulsing, i would upgrade the pads, caliper, mc if you want upgraded stopping power. I'd personally spend the $ on the front brakes first. HTH - GL! Rob |
