How much of a difference on everyday riding does the EBR ECM make over the OEM ECM? this would be on a 2008 1125R without any exhaust/frame insulation. Right now my legs get nice and toasty. I'm getting ready for a 4.5hr ride one way this weekend and looking for some relief!

My CR feels like I am riding a hibachi on hot days. with EBR ECM, it does power wheelie with no clutching not sure if you get that with the stock ECM.

The bike runs a little cooler due to a slightly richer mixture, and the fans come on earlier which keeps the coolant temp down a bit, but it's far from a night-and-day difference. Same goes for rideability--it's an improvement but it doesn't turn the motor into an inline 6 or anything. (Smoothness-wise.)

Turned my CR into a monster. I think a lot of that had to do with the pipe I altered for it. Im 250 and I could barely keep the front end down through all gears. 6th gear at 100 mph...whack the throttle and she would stand up. It was like being on my RD 400 all over again.

My other option is wrapping the exhaust and insulating the inside of the frame rail.

She's completely stock so I didn't expect to see a large performance gain. Maybe runs smoother and the engine run a bit cooler.

What do you people wear when you ride, sandals and a thong?? I've done 1000 mile days on my bone-stock CR and not had any heat issues. Buell touring seat, and Uly pegs, are the only changes I've made to the bike...

1. Denoid, if you haven't already - makes third gear pulls much better.
2. EBR ECM improves low-end response considerably, and usually raises rev-limiter 500. Combined with a performance exhaust, adds significant Hp and torque increases.
3. Thermotech or other radiant heat liner on the inside of the frame helps a lot with heat and fuel boil, but sitting in traffic will tend to roast your inner thigh type area. Going fast seems to help with felt heat, too, but that can get you busted.

Seriously though, work jeans and steel-toe boots. It's not too bad until I hit city stop and go traffic. Then it gets a little toasty!

I'm pretty much decided on wrapping the headers and insulating the frame. Also going to apply some grip pads on the outside of the frame. Going to do a coolant flush and replace it with engine ice.

Any pictures around here of wrapped headers? How about how much wrap will be needed?

As summer turns to fall the heat issue lessens. The heat coming out of the port is right up there by the frame-tank. In back it is worse. A great winter project? Ceramic coat your headers.

Pipe plus EBR ECM gives you 140 linear ponies at the rear wheel versus mid 120s for the stock bike (with low RPM issues.) The downside is anything aftermarket as far as the pipe is LOUD. However, if you aren't a douche, you can still be friends with your neighbors.

I have had issues with my R, but the motor with EBR ECM has NOT been one of them. Runs incredibly strong and is no doubt the best part of the 1125R. I LOVE the motor on this bike and it IS the reason I haven't migrated to some other Twin sportbike.

I prefer to use the term "assertive" rather than the vulgar "loud" you refer to, sir.

I recently insulated, ceramic coated, wrapped, grip-padded, and ECM'd mine for heat relief. Highly recommended. I got the 1"x50' DEI "Titanium" wrap and had plenty left over. I haven't measured so I'm not sure if the 15' length would be enough.

I have the race ECM on my 08R model and it makes quite a difference the bike runs smoother at lower RPMs has great throttle response and runs a bit cooler.. Although I have not noticed it ever being overly hot .. I installed the Race ECM on my 09CR along with the Keda RT4 and the power increase is substantial and as mentioned above it is possible to whack the throttle in 6th at 100 and lift the front wheel I wouldn't call in a full wheelie but it does come up and will hold for a bit .. It can be an unnerving experience to say the least if not expecting it .. you can play the front end like a yo yo in second and third.. powering it up at will..But to answer your question , get the EBR ECM it will improve the bike all around and in my opinion worth every cent...

Not BS, I've done it too. Mine aren't quite wheelies either, but you do feel the front end get light and bouncing as the wheel starts skipping across the pavement like a stone on a lake.

My 2008 is bone stock.

Runs great.

Reliable.

And . . . at my age . . . I've no need to lift the front end of a fully laden touring bike at 100+ MPH.

I've become dull in my old age.

: )

Hildstrom, that turned out looking great (good write-up too).

And I've lifted the wheel more than once at 100+, but it damn sure wasn't in 6th (I hardly ever get to go fast enough to use that one).

Mine is still hot as piss and my inner left thigh gets to the point of being uncomfortable when stop and go in 90+ degree weather. No I'm not a wimp and I swap between jeans and mesh riding pants depending on the mood that day. I've been considering the exhaust wrap when I rotate the engine.

The main thing I noticed was the smoothness under 5000rpm. I don't beat the piss out of my bike, so I don't personally care about the difference between 120RWHP and 140 on the street.

It is worth noting that the CR has shorter gearing, so a hard pull in 6th on a CR at 100mph is 6700RPM, which is the same RPM the R would do at 100mph in 5th. Also, due to the CR fairing, you turn into a bit of a kite on the highway, even more so if you have the upright bars. The front end simply is harder to keep down on the CR than the R.

In my experience, quite a bit. Both my R and CR are running Race ECMs, I wouldn't have it any other way. The bike is smoother, gets better fuel economy, runs cooler, starts easier, and a bunch of other minor changes like reduced engine braking. Other than the fact it costs money, there is no downside.

Right now my legs get nice and toasty.

Better riding attire would fix that. I don't feel any heat unless I am squidding it up. Under my riding suits I don't feel any heat from the bike unless I am stuck in traffic during a hot summer day, but at that point nothing is going to save you short of shutting the engine off. Even then the sun beating down on you can't easily be avoided.

There is nothing like a good, fast solid exit on to a long straight and floating the wheel up through the gears. On the track that is.

Hildstrom- I'm basically doing all that minus the EBR ECM.

I'm also doing a coolant flush and using engine ice and a oil change. I just ran out if funds this time around for the EBR ECM. I'm also having a local shop mod the stock muffler to deflect the tail pipe away from the rear brake.

While the engine is rotated I did remove the valve covers to check the timing belts, guides, and tensioners. Everything looks fine.

I did learn the HD service manual is a PITA! It's not very well written.
