just put on new pads and brakes seem way nicer. more linear and powerful and they aren't even bedded in all the way.

I've been running them for...500? Miles now. I like them. However I did somehow pick up more handle travel before the brake engages about 150 miles ago. Fluid is good and full with no leaks. I'm guessing the pads finally bedded in all the way.

I'm a fan. I also find if you hone the rotor and really do a good job with the brake cleaner on the caliper pistons, you get pretty amazing brakes

Still working on the lever feel. I've got a master cylinder rebuild kit, I'm hoping that solves most of it. The caliper rebuild certainly did wonders

I've run the HH's on the rear for a couple years now. Just swapped in another set this weekend. Feel good and seem to have plenty of stopping power for me.

I did a full flush recently as well, so it's all feeling nice. I do want to try cleaning the caliper pistons with some brake cleaner (since Sprintst mentioned it).

So the next time i pull the wheel i'll do that to see if it helps at all. No issue i can tell, but as usual it is so gradual i might not notice. A couple minutes seems worth it to see if it helps!

I clean the pistons each time I replace a tire. Well maybe not everytime.

I just use diluted simple green or soap and water. I heard brake cleaner can degrade the seals but can't confirm. Pop out the pads and give a small pull on the lever to push the pads out a bit then toothbrush and lots of water to rinse.

Your brakes will make you happy. A quick bleed makes them better too. Try bleeding from the top banjo first after tapping on the MC.

One thing that made a pretty big difference to me is better brake fluid. Currently using RBF 600 and it seems to have taken a lot of the "take up" out of the lever. I know it's a little overkill for the street, but it feels way better.

Side note: I'm also running a radial 19mm Nissin from a 2010 GSXR 1000.

Between a shot front tire and a couple days on the Tail of the Dragon, my front was feeling a bit beat, including the brake.

When I changed the tire, I was going to pull and hone the rotor, etc......but decided to just push in the pistons, and brake cleaner the crap out of the caliper. 100% better, restored it right back to great.

I hear Dot 5 makes a nice difference, thinking of trying that.

IDK if brake cleaner hurts the seals or not, it is made for the job ....... but getting a piston rebuild kit from EBR isn't much $ and it's easy to do

Do not use DOT 5 in a DOT 4 system!

+1 Rob,

Do not use Dot 5. They do not mix.

Motul RBF600 Dot 4 fluid is a great inexpensive brake upgrade. You should flush at least every year, more if you race or ride the track.

Great info. I "upgraded" to the RBF600 as well, but don't know i've been able to tell much of a difference on rear brake (new EBC HH pads) just due to new fluid. Front feels nice and tight w/ no other changes though.

I have new HH pads coming for front brakes and looking forward to comparing them w/ the stock pads.

I read here that the main culprit for the excessive lever travel are the brake rotor mounting bolts and the hardware that come with it from the factory. Someone else may be able to explain better than me. But from what I gather, the mounting hardware is not up to the job of allowing the front rotor to expand and contract and allow the rotor to align consistently within the rim.

As SprintST pointed out, and I can confirm this, simply by pushing the pistons back and "resetting" their position will bring back the normal brake lever travel for a short period of time. But after some use the brake rotor will expand/contract and not settle consistently, and you're back to having that long brake lever travel.

EBR sells the new and improved brake rotor mounting hardware that is supposed to fix this issue. It's only $50 and many members swear by it. Unfortunately, I think it's still out of stock.

I have a set up similar to Dhays....yes purchase the new mounting hardware!
a) Throw out the little springs used with the original hardware (they reside in the wheel casting)
b) rebuild the caliper if you have the time and equipment ( air compressor to get the old pistons out)
c) the HH pads are "dirty" they create a lot of dust ...if clean wheels are your thing be ready with the old "elbow grease" to keep the wheels clean.
