http://i.imgur.com/t2mfBrm.jpg I didn't want to pay ~$350 for a set of (very high quality) Pitt Bulls, I didn't wanna drill holes for spools, and I don't have access to my full garage this summer to modify any of the cheaper stands, so I got creative. I'm pretty proud of it to be honest haha. I combed through the forums yesterday to try to find cheap alternatives that didn't require a hoist from above, now I can change wheels at the track with a jack stand and a floor jack, so I'm pretty happy! Thought I'd post up to potentially help others out in a pinch! |

Necessity is the mother of invention... Nice work! In a pinch i've heard the T-Rex stands are pretty decent. I think i just saw a set (for spools and triple/neck (not shock) front lift for ~$100 on fleabay? Venom not T-Rex The T-Rex spool and triple set is ~$200 in black. Regardless - nice work with the improvised lift! |

For your temp setup, you could also use a bar that goes through the hollow axle so that you don't have to protect the finish on the swing-arm. I have a Venom tree lift and a PitBull rear stand. The Venom is up to the task on this kind of a bike, but I wouldn't use it on anything heavier (like a sport-touring bike). The Venom has diagonal braces on the lift arm that the other cheap ones don't. http://www.amazon.com/Venom-Motorcycle-Triple-Head lift-Kawasaki/dp/B00AV8HPX6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_t op is the one that I bought. The PitBull is awesomely built and if you can drop the cash, they make the best stand that money can buy. You can see the pride and workmanship in them, and they're super heavy duty. |

"For your temp setup, you could also use a bar that goes through the hollow axle so that you don't have to protect the finish on the swing-arm. " I thought of that, but I really only need to lift the rear to take the wheel off for a tire change, so going through the axle wouldn't do a whole lot for me. Plus, I'm not sure if I could get a high enough initial angle while going through the axle like that, to have the set jack stand high enough to get the rear up once I brought the floor jack up even with it. |

What am I doing wrong. Been using PitBull stands on all my bikes for years with nary an "incident". I have dropped my R off the rear stand twice in 6-months! This was using only the rear, no front. Both times, I was fooling with the bars (mounting new grips) and a sideways push knocked it off the stand. Dammit! Warped my belt cover mount last time. No damage first time. Has to be my fault but sure makes me leery of using the stand now. :-( |

This actually worked amazingly well, but I like my Pitbull I bought after this.

Ron - that shouldn't happen. Helping a buddy w/ his CR he has the 08 style rear pitbull stand (rubber bumpers vs spool), we did partially knock his off the stand, but only with me leaning on the rear frame to steady it while he torqued the rotor nut to 295lbs... fiddling/bumping/knocking the handlebars should not knock it off the rear stand. I wonder if the bumpers are loose or somehow wider than they should be? I'd give pitbull a quick ring and see what they say: 877-533-1977 GL! Rob |

Ron, I use the same stand on my two 1125s and two XBs, I've never come close to knocking them off. I did a rear wheel swap on my Ulyssess, no front stand, and at one point I did move the handlebars to get a better view of the back side of the rotor. The bike stays solid on the stand, I was able to pick up the rear stand a hair and roll it to move to a better spot too.

Just make sure you're getting the pads situated properly, as seen in the pic above, shouldn't be any issues. |

That's the stand I am using. I am fortunate to live close to the PitBull mfg facility. Went to them with my problem and they were surprised. They said this issue had never come up. Guy took my stand back into the shop and put new rubber sleeves on it. Wish mine had spools. :-) |

That's awesome customer service! Have you tested this fixed the issue for you? Spools are easy to add! just drill and tap the hole to add them! |

Just noticed in Froggy's pic that there is a spool on the swing arm?? Is the spool resting on the stand? That would provide more stability for sure. My '08 just doesn't have any place to drill/tap for spools. It does have what I would describe as "sliders" for the swing arm which are mounted dead center and about 3-4 inches in front of the axle. Yep Si33py, the guys at PB are really accessible and will do anything they can to lend a hand. They treat everyone with respect. I have not used the stand since the new rubber was installed. PB said they were planning to try some different compound(s)and I hope to pick up a sample this week. Might be so sticky ya have to pry the bike off the stand. :-) |

The spools on my CR are not supporting the bike, my XB in the background lacks spools and is supported the same way. Spools can be added to your 08. Dean Adams used to make some that attached to the bottom of the swingarm that come on and off quick and easy There are also other options if you don't mind drilling into the swingarm.

Thanks Froggy. That last pic is pretty close to what is on my bike although the spools look a bit longer. I understood PB to say they did not have a stand to fit those....but I can see clearly that a PB is lifting it. |
