'09 1125R, 8100 miles. Intermittent "Comm Error" message, started about a month ago. I have visually inspected all connectors between the ECM and the instrument cluster. All look pristine. Error comes and goes during rides, blanking the display of data. Bike still runs with the error active, but will occasionally miss a couple firing events. It seems to be getting worse. Any Ideas |

Check the grounds. Particularly the one at the steering head. (Message edited by rodrob on July 24, 2014) |

Rob +1 During cool-down lap my last race weekend, the IC showed a brief "Com Error" code, then went to "Theft Error" and promptly died. When it did that, it was dead dead dead - no IC cycling, nothing. After going through all the diagnostics (per manual), it kept coming back to "replace IC" or "replace ECU". Swapped out ECU and IC with some spares.... still "theft error". Turns out, it was loose engine harness ground (not neck ground). Once I found and remedied that, the beast came back to life like magic. |

Make sure you are plugged in all the way and locked on all connections between the IC and ECU. |
