How easy is it just to get the stator or the bike and do I need any special tools as I am wanting to take the easy route and get it rewound. All the info seems to talk about the rotor removal |

No special tools are needed and all you have to do is take off the ignition cover and it is attached to it. If you don't do the rotor mod the stator will burn up again. https://baf.zone/projects/1125-charging-system/wri teup.pdf |

Thanks my local dealer wanted £1600 to replace stator and rotor and that's to much for me. So it looks like I will just get the stator rewound and see how it goes if I didn't need special tools I would have had a go at doing it myself, |

Buellbaker - i just did this and while not cheap (to do it right w/ EBR rotor) - it's not that hard. a couple specialty tools are needed. The crank locking tool is a must if you want to do the rotor (and the EBR oil mod'd rotor should be on the list). A couple good torque wrenches that do in-lbs (11Nm / 97 in-lbs IIRC). Almost a specialty tool or at least kind of hard to find one is a big-ass torque wrench that does 300lbs (295lbs needed for the rotor nut). new gasket, new locking nut (not necessarily needed unless you chew up the old one, but i replaced mine and have old as spare). High temp RTV to secure the wires behind the stator to case. Locktite/Permatex 648 and 272. Take a look at my recent thread and hopefully it helps. PNW Uly and I did both our bikes one week and doing it twice it's pretty easy even for a non-mechanic person like me. Just follow the directions and specs. Ask questions here and i know everyone will chime in to help out. GL! Rob |
