My bike feels sluggish, and when you rev it up under load it wont pull past 9k, falls on its face, then when you shift picks back up again until it hits 9k. Runs fine otherwise, snappy throttle response, no popping, smooth for the most part. Just weird power loss, and no pull up top. I looked the whole bike over did a compression test, 300psi in the rear, 285 up front. OHMS tested the coils, 0.8 is the reading on both but I cannot find a spec. Everything looks ok, my IAT on my dash has been a little higher then normal... reading ~20* higher then I would think it actually is. Speedo JUST stopped working also. It happened suddenly, lots of power to little power within 10 min. (Message edited by deanh8 on July 19, 2014) |

Can you post a picture of the rocker arm? I'm curious... |

Oh, the finger follower. Do you know what may have caused it yet? |

That's the first rocker arm failure I've heard of on an 1125 motor. Has anyone else heard of that happening before? |

Pretty sure the retainers broke also. |

Not new - in my case, jumped time http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/713190.html If you can get your hands on a cam and crank lock, do this: set affected cylinder at TDC and lock with crank tool. Once you do that, set cam locking tool in place. If it doesn't drop right in, make sure (again) cylinder is at TDC. If so, cam chain gear has slipped on cam. If you don't have cam/crank tool. There's another way to check if gear has slipped on cam. Find TDC with a dowel in the spark plug hole. There may be witness marks on the cam chain sprocket that should be parallel with top of head. If, at TDC, the witness mark is not parallel, sprocket has slipped. If that is the case, I can walk you through the fix, which was fairly easy once I figured out the root cause. |

Trying to decide to lift the frame or not. Not sure how the valve had stayed closed without being bent.did you bend any valves? |

No - but the intake valves did slap piston just enough to break through carbon.
I didn't see any obvious valve damage, but went ahead and replaced valves and guides anyway. |

Note - jumped time caused valve slap. Valve slap caused cam followers to break. Once followers break and fall away, the cam does not contact valve shim, so no valve actuation; that's why valve stayed closed. |

The retainers are missing and the spring is just floating all crazy and the valve has not dropped |

Since the retainers are missing, I'd offer this: 1. Make sure you can recover all the parts and pieces of cam follower, valve retainer and shim (ie; verify nothing dropped into crankcase). 2. Since you'll need to pull the head to replace valve retainer, you'll need cam and crank locking tools, new head gasket, and whatever valves/retainers/springs you decide need replacement. Head bolts require Torx socket. Tools are available for loan from some particularly kind BW members. An engine stand helps a lot too. Valve cover gaskets can be reused, but are relatively cheap. 3. Service manual covers procedure for pulling heads, setting cam timing, etc. Dropping motor is almost a must. 4. Put everything back together, reset timing and you should be good to go. Head gasket is about $50 for one(yikes!!) Followers are about $35 each. - I may have a couple if you're in a hurry. Al at American Sport Bike can get them for you otherwise. Follower shaft is spendy at $75, but not likely you will need to replace that. |
