I have an 1125CR that I frequently ride at highway speeds (or more) and take to the occasional track day. Personally, I would like it to be geared higher than it is, but I've only read about people wanting to change from higher R to the lower CR gearing so maybe I'm in the minority. Is there anyone out there that would like to work out a parts trade? It would have to be for parts that are damage free like mine are. Of course the swing arm would have to be black too. |

The CR final drive will net you more low end torque and I doubt you ever will use the extra 3-4 mph you gain from going to the R final drive. |

I'm not interested in going faster. I'm interested in lowering my RPMs at highway cruising speeds. |

The RPM drop between the two its not as drastic and you might think. The CR revs ~3700rpm's @ 55mph while the R revs ~3400rpm's @ 55mph. That's a lot of work to drop 300 rpm at average speed. If you're like a lot of us and cruise at about 80 mph the difference is still only ~340 rpm. Fuel consumption differences would be very small, while wear and tear differences would be negligible. FWIW if there was a way to significantly drop the size of the rear sprocket it would be your best option to lose some revs at speed. Unfortunately you would lose all of your bottom end power. Hope this helps. |

In S. Florida you need to go at least 85MPH on I95 or you will be getting passed by minivans. To me, ~400 RPM drop is significant enough for me to be willing to do the swap, but I don't NEED to do the swap. The bottom end loss that I would experience would be mostly, or maybe completely alleviated by my bolt on performance upgrades. I like the idea of a little less noise and vibration at speed more then winning drag races. |

I own both an R and CR, the gearing difference is significant, I love the R for touring, and the CR for being a hooligan. While there are other differences than just the gearing, my R gets about 10% better fuel economy than my CR. 400ish-RPM difference in 6th gear doesn't sound significant, it is nice for cruising. I end up looking for 7th on my CR by time I hit 50mph. |

Froggy: interesting! I didn't think it would be a 10% increase on fuel economy. I have a local friend with a CR. We went for a shoot down a local highway together yesterday as a matter of fact, and while he seemed to tear down the on ramp faster than me, his bike didn't seem like it was turning that much harder while riding side by side at 80. I used your gearing table to calculate the RPM differences...didn't think such a small RPM change would impact the figures and rideability so hard. I stand well corrected. |

Switch to a chain drive. Use what ever sprocket combo you want. |

I considered the chain idea until I saw the cost. That's great for racers but I'm just looking for a parts swap since it's not a real high priority. In the archives there are some postings of people wanting to go to the CR gearing, so I thought I would just throw it out there. I also see that a couple guys were fabbing pulleys to make up for the gear change in lieu of a swing arm swap, but neither one of them have been on the forums in the last couple years or so. I guess I got to the party a little late. |

Ahh i see. Yeh the custom pulley sounds cool. Wonder if something from a softail could be scabbed on. |
