I just Got my new buell The dealer promise me a brand new battery but it is not a harley Davidson . I dont know if that have something to say. But after one week driving. 500km it is starting to light in the battery everytime the bike is hot and not drive. About 75-80degrees but when it starts driving its turn off again. What to do? It is a aug 2008 model |

First off, welcome to Buells! Amazing bikes. Also, welcome to BadWeb! Now on to business. You bought a 2009 model CR. To start, the stock charging systems are completely useless. Literally every single one of them has gone bad at some point in time. So in a nutshell, if it has the stock charging system, it all needs to be replaced with the upgraded system. This includes: stator, rotor, and voltage regulator. Not the cheapest swap, but it's a fairly simple job. There are a few headaches, but most people here have done it. Most recently was Sl33py (Rob). He has a full (very helpful) thread of his swap, that he actually just finished over the weekend. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/741796.html?1405223950 Have fun, good luck, and post up with any questions. |

The CR model was not produced in 2008. You have a early model year 2009 CR. It will get progressively worse over time. It may be slightly charging now, but it will deteriorate. |

Around 12.2 hot idle fans running, close to or above 14 while running. There is an easy test for the stator if you have a multimeter. |

It is Like mine.. Two times when the fan is running 11.9 But i dont Think the battery light should go on? I Can get a multimeter tomorrow |

11.9 is no good. At 11.9 you are discharging the battery while running. Try to get a multimeter and I'll send you the procedure. |

Since you are in Denmark it will be easy to fix. Go here http://www.twinmotorcycles.com/webshop/artikel.asp ?guid=YXHFSC&aid=5320&cid=5152&s=&a=&aname=TM_Buel l_1125RCR_09-10_burned_stator_fixing_kit |

Was there a recall for this issue ever? |

I've been told that if the upgraded rotor is applied prior to stator failure - that can be the only fix required. i don't think there was any recall for the issue.. just the harness/ relay that was supposed to save the stator. |

Guys, Tygun's profile indicates this is a 2008 1125r bike. Why are you talking to him as if he owns a 2009 model? His profile says it's a 2008! |

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that his bike is a 2009 1125CR. But the build date of his bike, most likely according to the sticker on the tank, says August 2008. My CR has a November 2008 build date. |

Could be a typo in the profile. The problem fits a CR. I'm with Dhays right now. I think its a early 09 CR. ..AND his profile says "Buell 1125cr" That it does. But it says "2008" which I'm sure is wrong. (Message edited by brokenGQ on July 13, 2014) |

I'm not sure this is 100% accurate. The stator and rotor yes, not sure the voltage regulator is a necessity. I replaced the rotor and stator, removed the HD harness, and retained the stock VR. After ~2,000 miles it's still holding 13.5-14.2V at all RPM ranges in all weather conditions thus far. This is not to say the VR will NEVER fail, but so far it has not been an issue. OK hold on guys, The charging system Will GO BAD if your in traffic without a doubt I know several folks including myself who have had no stator issues. The fix is probably installed if your battery light is comming on and charging drops at extended periods of traffic or idle. That is what it is designed to do. You can change the relay on the fix and I at least found if I change it yearly I don't have the battery light near as often. If you want to disconnect the FIX hear is the easiest way http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/647864.html?1313549258 This will stop your stator from shutting a leg down but IF it heats up DOOM however the best thing to do is upgrade the system as recomended by several posters. I hope you get all the kinks worked out and get to enjoy the bike THEY ARE GREAT MACHINES and welcome to Buell. Dave |

The charging system only fails on '09s if you don't keep the revs up. I've had probably 7 of these bikes at this point and NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER had a charging system fail or even a sign of it. It needs oil pressure, and it need revs. |

Tygun - The light coming on is not good. all of the above advice is good. four years ago I had just 2,000 miles on the CR and suffered a stator failure. After the warranty put in another stator I started putting in more oil, 3 quarts instead of 2.7. The electrical system was running but weak. I put the bike on a trickle charger, the electronics drain the battery. starting from a deficit when you go for a ride is not good. When I saw Brumbear's harness fix video I was in the garage within minutes! At the time I thought this might be at the expense of the stator, that was 20,000 miles ago. The bike is much happier without the harness. I will do the rotor upgrade from Erik Buell Racing when the need arises. Twin motorcycles has a similar fix and may be less expensive from your home. The charging system will be happier if you keep the bike on a trickle charger when not in use and the engine RPM's at or just below 4,000. |

You can buy the fix from Twin Motorcycles. They are located in the Netherlands. Check out the link I post above. |

You bought a 2009 model CR. To start, the stock charging systems are completely useless. Literally every single one of them has gone bad at some point in time. that is completely untrue. mine on my 09 was never replaced and has still not been replaced by its new owner. i know of others that are still fine also. my stock charging system functioned just fine for me, all while running (on occasion)a phone charger, heated grips, and heated jacket. |

You are correct. I was wrong. I was trying to make a hasty point and fed some inaccurate information, and I apologize. I do admit that I know one person with a functional CR factory charging system. The bike only has 7500 miles though, and he's a little worried about it. Personally, I have never met anyone else (until coming here) that had a CR that didn't have charging problems. But that amounts to about 3 people. Hope all goes well, and be safe. |

there are plenty that have had problems, but you also know how it goes... we hear more about problems then we do about people NOT having problems...!!! heck i bought an 08 setup(that i came across at a good price) for my 09 and just had it on the shelf incase the original gave up. the 08 setup works perfectly fine, and can be installed in the 09. my 08 also runs phone charger, heated grips and heated jacket with no problems. |

Lots of '09s have not have problems, you just have to make a habit of riding the shit out of them. There's obviously an issue with the 09 charging system. That's not up for debate. But, you can avoid becoming a victim of it. |
