What is a good alternative to Loctite 648? Having trouble locating it locally |

For the rotor nut? Loctite 252. I have some if you really get into a pinch. I can ship you the bottle flat rate. Just ship it back when you're done. Just PayPal me $10 to cover it. (Message edited by brokenGQ on July 06, 2014) |

Whats the difference between the 2? The manual calls for 648 for the rotor nut and the sprag bolts. Would the Permatex 6400 work? (Message edited by Shawns on July 06, 2014) |

The 272 (sorry typo before. Its 272 not 252) is red. 648 is green. The red is high temp made for crank bolts, etc. Not sure what the green specs are. I know they originally said 648 but had a problem with it holding and switched to 272. |

Ahhh. That would be the reason it was hard to find. Is the change listed in the manuals? Or a tech sheet? |

I'm not sure its either. I read it a lot on here and buellxb. I'd check into it. |

See if you have a Fastenal locally. They are an industrial supply place and would likely have it. Grainger is another one |

McMaster-Carr also carries it. |

I asked a similar question recently and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but it seemed like the permatex equivalents were easier to find: Loctite / Permatex 272 -- 27200 648 -- 64000 Anyone comment or confirm? Be good to know before i button my stator back up (when it finally arrives...). Rob |

I tried finding some cross reference info, not a lot on the market. 27200 is definitely permatex's high temp red. Same as loctite...not sure if there is a difference in the compound. I found loctite 272 on amazon, shipped same day as was to me in 2 days. I got a large bottle, figured it would come in handy. If anyone is having trouble and would like a couple drops they are welcome to it. Just PayPal shipping cost to me, and I'll send my bottle flat rate. Shouldn't cost more than $10 both ways. (Extra cash for my time, materials, and gas is welcome ) But I can understand if people don't want to go that route. $10 for one use is pretty high. Once upon a time Harley told me that "regular red loctite works fine". Never had a problem with it personally, but I like to stick to spec just in case. |

Ok, got the 27200. What are you guys using for the stator shoulder bolts? I have some 27100, but the torque breakaway and prevail numbers are higher. |

I just used the 272 on errythang. It all gets hot, and it all needs to be tight. |

From the horses mouth? Hi Shawn, Per the 2010 model year 1125R manual, we recommend: Loctite 648 for the (6) sprag clutch bolts Loctite 243 for the (3) stator screws and (2) cable cover fasteners Loctite 272 for the charging rotor nut, torqued to 295 ft-lbs. Thank you, EBR Customer Service |

I got the 272 Loctite had them look up the difference between the 271 loctite which I could find every where the 272 was more oil resistance. Think about that when you get another brand. |
