I have the forks out and everything but I just want to verify that when I go to try to press the ALL BALLS races in that Im not going to destroy my frame... the opening is 1.915" and the races are 1.984", if the new races are .069" larger than the frame opening, is that too large? (which is quite a bit larger than the stock ones at 1.922"). I expected them to start in a little with out help and need to be pressed in the rest of the way but they are large enough to not really start in the opening at all by hand. btw. Harley dealer wants $200 to replace them. |

You could try freezing the race. For obvious reasons, it would be really iffy to try and heat the frame. The only problem I see is that freezing the races might not shrink it enough to install without messing up the frame. I've got the same bearings that I was planning to install as well, but haven't pulled the front end to do so yet. Side note, 0.069" is a LOT when pressing steel races into an aluminum frame. (May be worth buying stock replacements instead of the All Balls version.) Good luck, and please keep us updated on what you do. |

Call Al at American Sport Bike. Give him the bearing number and he'll let you know if you have the correct bearing. http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/18171 |

thanks for the suggestions, I called American Sport Bike and he sells only the direct oem replacement which went bad at 10,000 miles so I don't want to put those in again but he also confirmed that .069" is much too large. |

im thinking of shaving them down with my dremel to a more reasonable size, like 10,000ths larger rather than 700,000ths.... |

I wouldn't recommend doing that since it wouldn't be a uniform diameter. That would allow the "high" spots to possibly rock the bearing, causing the steel to enlarge your frame. Now, if you had access to a lathe... |

Listen carefully. If you choose to "dremel" your race, you will ruin it. Return the bearing to your HD dealer, get your money back, then call AL and get them ordered from an expert! At half the price. If you buy the OEM bearing from American Sport Bike, you can add more grease before installation, then perform a yearly PM to check the bearings and add more grease at that time. Is it really worth your time to screw around with this project when you could be done with it for approx. $100 shipped? |

Yeah, don't dremel them. That will turn out to be a disaster |

The race sounds too big normally the bearing is 0.02mm-0.05mm bigger depending on bearing size i use carbonic extinguisher to freeze bearings |

Devon those bearings are too big to put in to the frame, Typical press fit in inches in these sizes are about 0.0005" to 0.001" 1/2 of 1 / 1000 inch to 1/1000" this is the second all balls night mare i have seen barring some super fantastic deal on known superior quality items I would avoid them, some one posted up about dry sealed wheel bearings from these folks, To repeat the sage advice on this subject take your bearings to a bearing house or buy oe......[ AL is also a good source ] |

You are going to destroy your frame if you keep going in this direction. You have the wrong bearings and you can not make them round with a dremel. |

I would be scared to put them on a lathe too...talking about milling off .068". That outer race of the bearing will be THIN at that point. Won't take much pressing to crack it and ruin the whole bearing. +1 going OEM |
