hi have a 2008 1125r was having bad start drags so cleaned terminals took starter off checked teeth put back together now all i get is a clicking noise coming from starter coil. have no clue what i did wrong but frustrated now please help any info on what might be my problem would help me out alot

Check the relay under the seat. Known to go bad. Dragging starter could be a bad starter (very rare) or a bad sprag clutch (also rare). Things to check though.

What is your battery voltage? Low voltage will cause the clicking sound as well.

we had a battery charger on it for a few minutes as we rechecked everything

when we checked it with a meter the voltage went down as we tried to start it

What did it drop to? Anything less than 9.2vdc is considered a dead battery.

Did you disconnect the battery when you pulled the starter? You might have just shorted the battery.

that would make sense since it felt warm from sitting there. since i didn't disconnect the battery cables. would there be any other problem besides the battery dying or won't know until i change the battery out

have a spare car battery to test with? Hook cables and see if it turns over without any problems and go from there.

Ok an update. I hooked up a car battery not running of course and I got a humming noise from the relay and nothing else. I quickly disconnected the cables. Could it be the starter relay is gone??

Burrhead, try swapping the relays around, it is possible that one of them failed.
