I know there are plenty of track day junkies and amateur racers here. I figure someone here knows what I am looking for. Are there any sorts of fasteners for bodywork that are safe for track day use to hold on a belly pan besides bolts? My current set up has screws that go into clips on the lower fairings.I am interested in a quicker option than screwing bolts in and out around my belly pan. It would basically just be two pieces of plastic going together if I remove the clips. |

Dzus. They're awesome. https://www.google.com/search?site=&source=hp&ei=F J-OU5vfG-7KsQTNvoLQAQ&q=dzus+fastener&oq=dzus+fast ener&gs_l=mobile-gws-hp.3..0l5.3586.8111.0.8538.14 .10.0.5.5.3.2424.11627.5-1j2j4j1j1.9.0....0...1c.1 .45.mobile-gws-hp..4.10.6281.3.ZFqrOjfQddg |

Pat, Come talk to me at ECR about the Milspec fasteners. I can show you a couple of head and receiver styles, and how to use them. I've also fabricated a couple of jigs to make the job easier. They are a bit more expensive than the ordinary Curvy Girl type stuff, but they are a much higher quality fastener, too. |

What about the stock screws? Where can I find some of those for the airbox cover & whatnot. |

My setup uses both the Milspec fasteners and a couple of the standard Dzus. I like them both for different reasons. The Milspec are great because they seem to hold tighter, and they are nearly flush on the bike, very nice. Need to use a screwdriver on them, but they are super fast. Dzus are great because you don't need any tools to work them. They take a hair longer to attach than the Milspec, and it's best to put a spot of tape over them after attaching. |

It sounds like I will want the Milspec fasteners. I like to use the good stuff. This is for the bodywork on my 1190RX. You have to take off the belly pan to change the oil. It is also much easier to clean and lube the chain with it off. I can see myself removing it quite often. I am also slightly concerned the screws might loosen and fall out. They are not very tight. They have a foam rubber washer under them that I suppose is intended to keep them from unscrewing. |

Jolly, when you figure out what setup you want to run to replace the bellypan screws, please point me in the same direction. I'd like to do the same on my RX. Thanks! |

You can get a bail-head milspec fastener as well. |

Jim, when will you be at ECR? I'll let you take it for a spin around the track if you promise it won't come back with COMPLETELY bald tires and horribly discolored brake disks. Oh, and you cannot tell my wife..... |

I'll be at ECR this weekend as its a race weekend. The next time I could take your machine on a test ride would be on the 28th and 29th. I'll be coaching some guys that weekend. Are you sure you don't want some street cred put on that bike |

Street cred? I am worried I will wear flat spots on the tires riding on the street. Right now, the tires are worn fairly evenly round from riding in the mountains. Same with the 1125. I am thinking of bringing them both for a track day at MSRC. |

Oh, and I am not sure I want to take away from your private lessons. No one needs distractions. Kevyn and Jon would not mind me showing up, but my wife's bday is the 28th. I probably cannot get away. I don't know who you have on the 29th, but they might not appreciate me just showing up. |

Come ride the Big Green Egg and make us lunch and I doubt anyone would care! |

What about stock screws for the bodywork? Like the ones on the airbox cover? I seem to have vibrated a few out. |
