Still no charging. Measured the stator, each phase has good ohms, no short to ground. With motor running I get 3.5 VAC from each phase. Don't know what to make of it. Checked meter, it's good. Had Sprage clutch replaced about 2K miles ago. No funny noises. Just no volts. Ideas?
Each of the stator wires should be infinity ohms to ground. No short to ground is good, however if you are getting any kind of resistance to ground other than infinity on any of the wires, the stator is bad.
When you say each phase has good ohms, exactly what is the reading? IIRC, the value is less than 1 ohm. It takes a relatively good VOM to make that kind of reading.
I think checking the stator VAC output is more accurate than checking the ohms with most meters. Make sure you're doing the tests properly. I made a quick video that may help.
Thanks guys. I used to be in the electronics biz as a tech. Used a Fluke 8030 DMM for my readings. Actually a Megger should used to check stator to ground. But the induced voltages the stator puts out aren't all that hi. After looking at many entries here and talking with my main mechanic I've a couple of thoughts to fix this thing. The EBR modified rotor that sprays oil to cool the stator and a series voltage regulator so the stator is not loaded so heavily. If I can implement both features it should greatly improve stator and VR life.
