Hey guys, just swapped my spark plugs out and putting her back together I noticed my airbox hose is missing... I don't recall it coming off, it must have worked itself off somehow? What does it do and how will it affect me? Should I just block it off? Thanks

it's the infamous breather hose ....known to cause numerous problems with throttle linkage...it's a friction fit ...up thru the "grommet"...take the assembly back off to find it and re-insert it into the grommet in the base of the air box...if it's still in there ( kinda looks like it) you may be able to pull it up with some small needle nose or surgical clamps...if you don't throttle linkage will be affected...sometimes not letting the throttles close...take your time - after doing the air box/throttle body grommet fit a few times you'll become an expert |

That is not the breather hose... the breather hose is further back in the air box and comes up thru the square shaped vent. That is the air supply to the Idle valve. If you block it off you will be sucking unfiltered air into the idle valve. Its just a 90 deg bend hose and will almost always fall off when you remove the air box. I use a zip tie at the idle valve end of the hose to keep it secure and then use a hook tool to gently pull it thru that hole in the air box when re assembling. |

Thanks a bunch guys, got me pointed in the right direction. Turns out it is the "Idle Air Control AL/YL" Part#: P0037.1AmA two bucks at the harley barn, the only bitch is I gotta wait for it to ship. Without it, it's just sucking in dirty air, which is a no go for sure, but there's a dyno day coming up on Thursday, so I'll run it once and call it good. I've been riding without it for quite some time now I think... Thanks for the zip tie mod Xtreme, I'll be certain to do that with this one. |

Note that the throttlebodies to airbox gasket needs to be properly installed too |

I'm glad you mentioned that for anyone else that reads this thread because if you don't get that seated right you'll pull air from around the seal and that's a no bueno. For now I plugged the hole in the airbox so it should run just as it should at the dyno, and when that hose comes in it'll be good to go. |

The circled hose is the one that will cause throttle issues. It can rub the throttle cable, causing drag, sticking, inability to get a repeatable idle... If clogged/kinked the motor will not run as it is in the idle control. The bottom end goes to the throttle body, the top to the airbox(circled). It should protrude 3/8" - !/2" above the airbox floor. |

thanks for this post. I checked and mine was missing. I fabbed one but it was too small and the bike wouldn't start. Next I fabbed a bigger one for temporary purposes. It worked. I ordered a stock less than $2 item. Now its on. One thing that I forgot, when I used to ride an old triumph I had a rule, if I am buying a part because the last one fell of the bike, buy two. After I got my $2 part for this buell, I immediately thought, why didn't I buy 2. Well I guess 10 years on a buell has broken me of my triumph habbits. |
