So I did the EBR rotor and Rick's stator due to the stock stator roasting. Is the VR replacement required? I have removed the HD band-aid harness as well. The system is consistently putting out 13.9-14.1v at idle and cruising. What are the failure stories if any have occurred when people bypass the VR upgrade but do the rotor/stator? |

From my understanding you should be fine with just doing those two things. I only added the upgraded regulator for added assurance. Did all three and I only drop to 14.0 when its super hot and I'm sitting in traffic. I'm usually at about 14.4-14.5 cruising around. I believe a bunch of people have only done the rotor and stator and have been fine. |

Almost makes me want to upgrade my 08 to the rotor and stator for the 09. |

Cateract, Be advised that the '09 crankshaft has a oil feed hole to supply the EBR rotor. The '08 crankshaft does NOT have this hole. I do not know either the size of the hole or its exact location on the spline. I have asked here, but never had a reply. Please note that on the EBR site, the mod is only for the '09 and '10 model years. |

Well aware of the rotor being different. Would have to get the rotor and stator to make it work. I would certainly go with the upgraded rotor as well. Only reason I didn't do this back when the 09's came out was the stator issues that presented itself then. |

He is saying if you upgrade you will not be able to oil the stator properly like it's supposed to be oiled therefore you will be blowing stators like it's cool if you went from the 08 stuff to the 09 stuff. Why would you want to upgrade to the problems? You would have to get the crankshaft too which isn't a simple bolt on. |

Sinnister, The advantage to the '08 to '09 upgrade is increased electric power. It is possible and advantageous to do so, but the '08 crank must be drilled to accommodate the EBR stator cooling rotor. The crank is made of 4140 and can be drilled with a cobalt M35 or M42 HSS drill bit in a drill press or vertical mill. The extra electric power may be needed to support larger cooling fans or other rider accessories like heated clothing or grips. |
