So, I came out to a dead battery on the 1125r the other day. Thought i left the ignition switch on. Installed new battery, turned on switch, dash fires up, run switch on, neutral... won't turn over. Turn off ignition switch, BIKE STAYS ON. Pulled all relays, BIKE STAYS ON. The only way to shut it off is to pull 30 amp fuse or disconnect battery. I'm stranded. Any ideas? |

Yep, that sounds like you have a short in your ignition wiring. It may be either in the ignition switch itself (you'll have to open up the back of the ignition switch) OR possibly your ignition wiring harness has been cut. There is a very tight radius with the harness, it goes around a sharp bend in the fairing stay. Zac4mac has had this issue. Search the "Google Buell 1125R Forum" at the top of this page and type in "ignition harness". Good luck! (Message edited by two_seasons on February 15, 2014) |

I had the switch issue and replace the key switch with a toggle. I figure it must be a short in the harness somewhere. I hate chasing down harness issues. PITA! |

No key switch on mine either - toggle switch on the fairing stay. I do have an extra (i.e.; original) key switch if you need it. You running OEM or race harness? (Message edited by Stirz007 on February 15, 2014) |

Best investment I made for troubleshooting 12VDC circuits: http://www.powerprobe.com/ It's really a good tool to have when you need to figure out what's going on. A dead short SHOULD blow a fuse. Sounds like a cross-connect somewhere that is going to a load or maybe a missing ground. |

After you pulled the 30 amp fuse and reinstalled it. Did the bike come back alive or did it stay off? If it stayed off and you cycled the key again, did it stay on again until you pulled the fuse? If so, I'm curious about if you have a bad relay and or key switch. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me at the moment. If no one replies tonight, I will take a look at mine tomorrow morning when I'm clear headed. |

Stoopid is as stoopid duz. So it turns out that when I put the new battery in, I did not get the harness ground connected to the negative terminal. Lesson is - look for the obvious first! Electrical weirdness is almost always a ground problem. Doh! |
