Hi from the great white north,I am cleaning up my stock fr brake rotor and decided to measure it and found that it is .196 to .194 in thickness and wondering if I could get it machined or if that is okay. The manual says .18 for thickness. Thanks for the advice. Mike |

That depends... Is it warped? If not, then there's really no reason to have it machined. If it's got the deposit spots from the pads, elbow grease and a scotchbrite pad will get it clean. If it is, is it gonna cost less than the cost (and piece of mind) of a new rotor from EBR? I went ahead and got the slotted rotor from them. Should be in by this weekend... |

No it is not warped I cleaned it up with sand paper 400grit and then measured it in 8 different spots.I am just cleaning it up as a spare as I all ready installed the ebr rotor.I have another 41/2 months of winter left. Mike |

Well, as long as it is not warped, I would say you're perfectly fine to hang on to it as a spare. |

if you have some extra cash...buy the brake mounting hardware kit from EBR as well...big improvement on consistent lever feel after I installed it. |

Thanks Ron and David.Ron I already have the ebr mounting hardware on my R and will be installing on my CR when I clean that rotor up.Money is tight right now but maybe in the new year I might get the ebr rotor for the CR as well. Mike |

Speaking of the EBR rotor, did anyone else catch that the price jumped up by almost double? $180 to $340. CRAZY!! ... Good thing I got mine before they raised the price...

Likely the result of going into active production on the RX instead overstocks for the RS, that's what you'd pay for just 1 of the 2 required, quality floating rotors for a dual rotor set up. Sorry you have to pay twice as much as you expected now, but its still only half as much as you would have to pay, if you didn't have a Buell. |

You'd think that for that large of an increase they would at least include mounting hardware |

I figure it's either a mistake in the storefront, or it's a supplier/cost change. EBR has been traditionally pretty good about really fair prices on parts. |

Hi Shawn, Yes, the price for the rotor is correct. Thank you, EBR Customer Service |

> Anybody tried the Galfer kit? I've not, because the EBR parts were so good and affordable! If you are thinking about this guy above, I am concerned about it for racing applications. It's probably just fine, might even be better for the street. But, that's a LOT of mass cut out of that thing badly needed for heat management... |

Dris at Twin has a new rotor made for them by Galfer.
http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/artikelen.asp?cid=20&aid=303 XB and 1125 use the same rear brake, yes? The new one has a BUNCH of meat. Z |

Jdugger, I currently have the Galfer disk on my CR now. I've tried four different types of brake pads and they are all only ok. They all seem to leave a lot of deposits on the rotor, even after scrubbing and cleaning and hard braking to remove the deposits. I wanted the EBR rotor to see if I can keep the deposit issue a little more under control. I use the front brake for everything on the road, except for holding the bike at stop lights and on hills. |

I have them on my phone, but they're too large to upload. As soon as I get home this evening I'll post them. |

I just recently replaced my front wheel bearings, which is the same time i cleaned the rotor. This is after about 300 miles.

Looks like you were getting a little heat into it, so I wonder if that rotor is the problem? Do you track at all? I kinda wonder what putting a worn out front race take off rotor would do on a street bike... |

I've only been on the track twice. Going to STAR school at Chuckwalla on the 21st, so I'm hoping to learn a few new things about track riding. I just put the slotted EBR rotor on today with new pads and EBR hardware, and it made a hell of a difference in the feel of the front brake. Haven't been able to really heat it up to see how it acts hot due to the rain and wet roads here today. Tomorrow might be a different story... I think it would be cool to make a cooling duct like the race bikes have. But, since I ride street 80% and canyons the other 20, I feel it's not really useful for me. (It would look cool though...)

I think the caliper vent would help on the street, at least on a hard ride or in very hot weather. Anything that keeps heat out of the system helps the lever feel. Plus, they look badass! EBR starts selling the caliper vents and lever guards as a kit for 1125's and I think they'll sell. |
