I know some of you have done this... I remember pictures! I am finding myself with my 1125R as my only transportation, and I need secure storage... help! Thanks |

chase harper bags: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/341803.html Al sells these MCM bags: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5765.html not ammo boxes, but a little better than soft sided bags ( you may be able to "lock" the zippers together like airplane luggage for security (?)...hope this helps |

The only hard/secure solution for an 1125R is a Ventura rack with a top case/trunk bolted to it. |

One member here did hard bags (maybe the Ully bags?), but he had to totally fabricate the mounts. Unless you're a helluva welder and don't have a regular passenger it's not an option, but man his setup looked sharp! |

The only hard/secure solution for an 1125R is a Ventura rack with a top case/trunk bolted to it. I beg to differ, I have uly side cases that are lockable and have locking removal, Pix later, the short is I used uly racks and bags, I sawed off the lugs for mounting and fabricated rails ( steel tubing - like Neils ) to mount them, If I had positioned them 2" further aft the passenger pegs would still have been more comfortable, they are barely usable now, ( i don't carry passengers much ) } |

To quote myself- "Unless you're a helluva welder and don't have a regular passenger it's not an option," I can't weld, most people can't. Without welding, it can't be done. Thus the Ventura rack, the only bolt on option. I tried welding in the Army, just couldn't get the knack, it's like painting- you can or you can't. Got pics? You think you could write a reasonable how-to on that? Something I could take to a welder and have them do it for me? Because if the wife will still fit on the back, I'd totally do that! And by the way, props for doing that, fab it up!!! I think if you made up a few of those you could sell them. I'd totally buy it. Just sayin'. |

Sir W, the proto type was totally bolted, If I had fabed the parts from steel it would have been done then, I wanted them tucked in and was outa aly My setup also does not alter the stock parts in any way so the bike can be returned to stock. I promise pics later basically any good fabricator can do it I can provide you some basic sketches and measurements to start from. |

First off I want to thank Neil I saw his 1125 with the bags on it when I picked up mine in Nashville Tn, it was a great job. I purchased side bags and racks from a uly these are the 42 liter size, One of my requirements was that no permanent alteration to the 1125 can be made. I started by looking at Neils setup and I have no welding equipment so I went with an attempt to fab up mounts from aluminum plate ( I had some of this ) this started as two L shaped brackets and a bar for the back.
I mounted the unaltered Uly racks with some added on bits for the cross bar, bolt up rear.

As I worked with the aluminum mounts I decided that they would not be sturdy enough, I also wanted the racks in closer, If I had been willing to cut up the tail section and fabricate some blocks to bolt to the tail frame it perhaps been bolt up, I have access to welding equipment and welders, And I went with steel mounts, the Z bracket and bar were fabbed from steel flat bar ~ 1" wide x 1/4" thick rails were bent to fit the tail made from square tubing ( lowes home improvement ) the L brackets were made to bolt up under the passenger peg mount brackets these supported the square tube rails that take the bag brackets, at the rear a flat bar runs under the tail bolting to 2 of the holes that hold the plate holder. Square tubing runs between the two flat bar mounts and is now welded there (heliarc) these were fitted on the bike and tacked in place. Once the rails were on the bolting lugs were sawed off of the bag mount rails, along with the leg that would run to the passenger peg mount these were tacked to the rail and adjusted for fit and position, then the whole mount was removed and welded out. next a straight cross bar made from flat bar and square tubing ( same as rails ) was fitted, once cool I re attached the mount to the bike and the bags clamp to the loops ala uly. they are not as sleek as some on the market but they are functional and work well, no squeaks and or rattles the rack finished and painted
the cross bar and tag bracket ( this may change )

Post script: a few days after I finished this I went out to eat and parked the '25 on a walk way in front of my favorite mexican place, on leaving I hung the right bag on a cement trash can and nearly dumped the bike, we moved the can the mount is fine the bag was scuffed a little. I could barely move the can back to where it went. I spent about 7 hours with an competent welder fabricator fitting and finishing this ( except paint ) I made the rear bolt up bar and the l brackets ( including the welding ) the L brackets at the front can be sawn from flat bar and uly racks can be bolted up If any one is interested in further info post up.... |

IMHO, hard bags just don't look good on any sport bike. I bought a set of Cortech sport saddlebags and I've used them about 3 or 4 times. I'm not totally happy with the purchase as I can't seem to find a way, without major surgery, to pull them up enough so as to not rub on that little sideways V shaped thingy that backs out from the passenger pegs. I have no clue what that thing is for, but it is exceptionally efficient at rubbing through the heat shields on Cortechs. |

Have to agree with Captjoe. This bike just shouldn't "saddled" with something like hard bags. Pick up a Uly or a cheap DL650 for mule-duty. :-) |

Pick up a Uly or a cheap DL650 for mule-duty. :-) ) If the bags are not over loaded ( 15 lbs ea ) you really don't know that they are there, the suspension of the 1125 is sooo good, that with minor changes to the rest of the bike it becomes a continent killer, The proposed mods, raise handle bars about 1~2 inches, custom saddle, double bubble wind screen, '09 charging system with ebr / ricks' mods and 602 regulator, perhaps enhanced water pump and chain guides At my local HD shop one of the sales men made some comments about my bike having ebr logos on the pods but having saddle bags, I said nothing, in my head, its still an 1125R AND those bags COME OFF } |

2.5 hours is a bout all my arse can stand on my CR. I like the hard bags though. I have a set of Kawasaki KLR bags I use on my CR. They work great and I got them dirt cheap. |

Hey Amy, I too am looking to put lockable storage on my 1125. I live in Key Largo. I have some Givi racks that i am going to fab up using a combination of Ccryder, Tattoodnscrewd, Tyrroneous, and Pattio 's ideas. Neil (ccryder) is very helpful. Links i found helpful: http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/ 556303.html?1271693123 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/369913.html?1213799586 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/584646.html?1280901446 if you're looking for something with no passenger then maybe this would work for you: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/361473.html?1210962106 Im at work so i have to go now... |

I don't think I could get on my CR if I put a trunk where the p-pad is. Seems like you'd have to be a kick boxer to get on it. |

@Oldog- Thanks! Awesome writeup, I'm all about bolf-fabbing some crap up! I'll have to consider this. I already got the sport touring pillion for the wife. If I could get the side cases to fit with the wife on it, drop foot pegs and the1.5 inch raised bars, it's the perfect sport tourer. I hope EBR builds something like this as I have no interest whatsoever in the current crop of bloated luxo-couch sport tourers. "This bike just shouldn't "saddled" with something like hard bags. Pick up a Uly or a cheap DL650 for mule-duty. :-) / IMHO, hard bags just don't look good on any sport bike. " Sportbikes also shouldn't be saddled with huge frontal sections, upright riding positions or radiator pods. As I understand it part of HD's requirement was that the 1125R lean toward the sport tourer side, to differentiate it from Japanese supersports. If it had a Ully sized tail section it would be a perfect sport tourer and is begging for hard luggage. "Looks" are subjective, and my purse doesn't match my helmet either. It does look a damned sight better than my tail bag strapped to the pillion though! @Figor- That's the case with any trunk or tail bag. I have a friend with a Triumph tiger, he's short, and has to climb the footpegs like a ladder to mount it. He also has TONS of storage. I used to kickbox and it's hard to get on my 1125R with the big tailbag on it. How bad do you need the space? |

I had a Concours and the trunk on it was far enough back for fairly easy access. The CR just doesnt have the subframe. Ill probably do the P Pad mount this summer. I have a spare P Pad for a doner and I kept the trunk off my Connie. I still have the hard bags to but I dont think they would go with the CR. I had them on my Blast when I had it. They looked pretty good on it. |

I bought a second rear seat off ebay and bolted a top case to the seat. I can switch to the stock seat real quick when not in use. I spent about 100 bucks back in 2008

@Figor- That makes sense, I miss the longer/wider tail on my SV. @TwoBuells- That's certainly a good one up solution! |
