Tomorrow I'm going to look at an 1125 for sale and I'd like to look under the seat. What tools, if any, should I bring with me to remove the seat? Any other Buell specific points I should pay attention to when viewing this bike? Thanks. |

Unless the owner changed to the American Sport Bike seat pins, the front seat is held down by two Torx size 30 screws. The rear seat requires the key to open.

Nothing Buell specific that you would be able to see. Two common weak spots are the clutch actuator and the stator, ask the owner about the history of both. Don't be scared if he mentioned he had or had not replaced anything. The clutch actuator can be fixed for $99 with the replacement from EBR If it is an 09 or 2010 model, it has the failure prone stator. The cure for this is the modified charging system rotor that EBR sells with a core exchange. As long as the stator is healthy when it is installed it will prevent any future failure. |

check for water pump leaking front of engine right side there is a weep hole. What year is it and how many miles? |

Guys, thank you so much for the replies. This was my first post to this forum and sometimes, in other forums, newbies don't get such a good response. I have lots of experience with sport-touring and sport bikes. I'm hoping (knock on wood) this bike will be 3/4 sport and 1/4 touring. The bike is an '08 Less than 3000 miles--mint condition--one owner, nothing modified. We'll see. |

Yes we tend to be a good bunch to the noobs, but just don't take anything anyone says personally. We are like family and sometimes you need a little bit of a thick skin, but it is not like other forums where the run of the mill response is "use the effin search". The bike sounds good from your description. Disregard the stator comments as they will not apply, and then ride the hell out of it. The bike is pretty nice in stock trim, my only real recommended upgrades are the Race ECM (even for stock muffler) to fix the EPA compliant fuel mapping, and for touring you will want to look into some tweaks like a more comfortable seat and a Ventura luggage system. I recommend keeping the thing stockish, they are very good right out of the box. |

Ask him if the gauge cluster has ever been replaced. If you drill down enough on the forums you should be able to find out which ones had the bad firmware. 3:1 sport to touring a fair enough assessment, but not too hard to sharpen it up. Great fairing. |

@ Torquehd - No they're T30 for M6, T27 are used on 1/4-20 buttonheads. The T27 has enough bite to be used as a "speed wrench" but don't put too much torque on it. Duane - what month is on the frame label? Early 08s had bad firmware in the IC. Mine was made the first week of production, but I never noticed any drain. It got replaced with an 09 IC in late 08 due to a failed switch button. The bonus to getting an 09+ IC is you get the gear indicator. Zack |
