I guess my expectations were a little different when I bought the case savers. I bought it to save my cases in the event I drop the bike. I expected a race part that was a little rough around the edges. The same was true when I bought the showa BPF. When they showed up the bottom of the fork legs still had some of the flashing marks on the casting. If I was buying this stuff to look good I would have been a little disappointed. But I bought them to make the bike function better and protect the bike in the event of an accident. Because of this I have found the parts to be well worth what I paid. But as I said my expectations seem to be a little different. I knew I was buying a track part so I didn't expect it to have the perfect street quality look. Just my 2 cents. |

I just mean anything carbon as a general rule. I will say this, if EBR plans to compete directly with Ducati, and make no mistake that's what they're doing, they can't have voids in the CF or casting flash. I've seen Ducati corsa parts- even the old sand cast stuff didn't look "thrown together for racing". I think you're probably right that the case covers are just safety gear and it's not that big a deal, and they were probably literally thrown together to keep 1125 guys racing, but going forward that's not gonna fly. Anyone willing to pay 20G plus for a bike, comparing Panigale to RX to APRC, isn't going to say "It's just for racing it can look like shit". I realise you guys have been putting up with Godawful HD quality for 20 years now- "My 2006 XB9SX had excessive porosity in the engine casing, causing an oil leak. Of course, I got a new motor out of the deal, Buell wanted it back for QC purposes." Um, no way Beavis. You never hear about crap like that on Hondas. Good on Buell to replace the motor but that's just unacceptable. I realise we're all fanboys here but "we" as a community are going to have to hold EBR to a higher standard than "we" did Buell/HD, because I promise you the rest of the sportbike world will. It's not unreasonable to expect quality- everyone else does. To be clear, I'm not expecting quality issues, but dude's right. If I buy something for my 1125R from EBR and it's shoddy, it doesn't give great impetus to buy a bike from them. Generally the manufacturer part is the gold standard. If I get something from Hot Bodies, i expect it to be flexy and need some grinding. If I get it from Yamaha I expect it to be perfect. Go EBR! |

I understand that but look at the price we paid for them and then compare it to what you pay for carbon body work. I imagine if we were to get something that had the same finish the cost would be much higher. For instance a belt guard costs $160 from American Sport Bike and has a lot less carbon in it. I don't even want to know what people pay for the carbon a ducati but I would imagine its a lot more. I understand that when you buy a 20k bike for the street you want nice parts. But thats not what these were designed for. They were designed to be taken out to the track and get beat up. As a racer would you want to pay the extra cost for the perfect carbon look or have something cheaper that doesn't look as good but gets the job done? From looking at it I am not even sure if it is just a decorative cover or has the kevlar in it to take a good slide. |

Race Part mentality vs. Polishing Queen mentality. I understand the desired outcome of both perspectives, but it's unlikely one part would do both jobs well. |

Well, at least we know from the screenshot of the ducati.ms forum that spelling and punctuation are less important than having shiny carbon fiber |

@Dugger- Good point. @Court- Yes, and the original Hayabusa frames cracked too, and Honda put bad bearings in VFR's for a few years, but do you really want to compare overall HD/Buell quality to um, everyone elses? HD is the joke of the motorcycle world for a reason, they earned their rep, and it rubbed off on Buell. I get making excuses for Buell, as they were saddled with HD. I'm just saying we can't have that same mentality with EBR, and again I don't think EBR will have quality problems anything like HD did. OK, even if Ducati's OEM carbon isn't great either, are you guys really arguing that EBR doesn't have to have great quality to compete? If anything they need to be better than the Ducs in every way, and I think they can be. Should be! Although, the CF bodywork on the RS looks beyooootiful! Just from the pictures it looks better than anything else out there, but I haven't seen one in person. (Message edited by sir_wadsalot on November 08, 2013) |

The OP still has not posted any pictures of the case savers, I am curious as to what the issue is as I can't figure it out by the description. I have not had any issues with mine, but it is possible I just never noticed. |

Sir_wadsalot, you really need to see the RS in person, every piece of it, carbon or not, is absolutely top notch. This reminds me of a year or two ago, there was a post showing close up pictures of the RS, and a thread from a detailing cloth was caught on the edge of a piece of carbon and some posters were freaking out about subpar quality carbon. |

I am not trying to argue that they don't need quality. Just trying to say that when you buy something like the case saver that is meant for racing you should have a different expectation. It is a race part meant for functionality not for show. With the RX out I am sure we will see some high quality parts meant to add to the appearance of the bike not just the functionality. CF & Fiberglass are both poor choices for daily riders, IMHO. We use them on race bikes because they are light and easy to do layup for repairs. But in street applications they are going to flex and crack and cause black lines in bright paint and so on. I can't imagine wanting to deal with that. I would never run a CF exhaust and laugh derisively at guys who brag on them. Like I said about the case covers, they're gonna fade and look like crap in a few seasons. I would probably paint them or coat them in rhino liner or something after they faded. @Froggy- The RS carbon is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen without high heels on, and looks utterly flawless to me. I'm just advocating high standards, that's all. I think you guys are right about the case covers not really mattering, and I hate to say it but the belly pans don't look that hot either. Functional. |

I don't personally care what the case covers look like. I am hoping they save the cases if I dump it. They are not finished the same way the rest of the bodywork is. Doesn't matter. In terms of blemishes and finish on the bodywork, I haven't seen any and had it all off on the table. It is flawless even where it is not visible. I'll let you know how it holds up. It isn't going to be a garage queen. My customer service experience with EBR has been great. They answer immediately, provided they are not out at an event. I don't think anyone sleeps there. They respond all hours of the day and night. |
