Hey guys. My voltage when cold and above 2,000 rpm rockets above 18v, so I got a new regulator. It's the CE 605 SB. I've got it, now I'm going to order a Deutsch connector and go to town on this thing when it arrives. I peeled it open and took a look, and I've got a *pretty* good understanding of what goes where. However, I read that the HD harness fix is incompatible with the series VR. Can I plug it in where the old one was anyway and just make it that easy? Should I plug it in to the one closer to the airbox like the instructional "de-harness-fix" video suggests? Finally, the harness fix vid suggests it's just a quick plug and that's it. What do the other wires attached to the harness do? There are two Deutsch connectors for stator and the regulator, the relay, and then a couple other ones. Do they need to stay in? Reason I ask is because if the series VR deems the harness fix useless, can I just unplug the whole thing and bypass it? If there's a thread on this please link me to it, I've tried using the search feature and I haven't found a "how to" for this; all I can find are mounting suggestions. Thanks. |

Great questions. Take pics and good notes if you can. I have one coming this weekend! |

The harness fix has to go. If I remember correctly, there are 5 plugs connected to the plugs on the harness. 4 of them will connect back together once the harness is removed, and the 5th can just be taped up. The 5th connector is what triggered the relay to shut off one of the charging phases. It isn't used for anything else I don't believe. |

>the harness fix has to go okay, so I can't just plug it where the old one was, got it. Now, is it as simple as plugging it in the one towards the front of the vehicle? That's what the YouTube video suggests. I'd have the two connectors unplugged, and I could just leave them there, right? Once I figure this out, I'll take a few pics as I'm doing it and MSPaint some red circles on it so you know what to pay attention to. |

Beef, Bubba, When I did my swap and upgrade I referenced a PDF that I found on the forum that was created by user Baf. It was extremely helpful. If you need/want a copy, send me a PM and I'll email it to you. Also check out my thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/718500.html?1379180098 Which recaps the swap. Good luck! |

After you remove the harness fix, i scavenged the deutch connectors from it and used it to connect to the new VR. I also cut the charging connector off of the old VR and soldered it to the output lines of the new one so that i could just plug into the existing stator and battery connections. |

Sent you the doc Beef. MORE INFO HERE: Here is a link to Hildstrom's thread on the topic, super detailed and possibly a little dense for some. He did the rewind himself so that adds to the confusion factor (if you want to look at it that way). http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/674357.html Here is the original thread from Baf which has a link to the PDF write up. He also rewound his own stator, but discussed the entire process for removal and installation as well as the RR installation. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/704802.html Again, good luck and use the forum for all your stator/RR questions! +1 for scavenging the connectors. I did the same. Making the new RR plug and play is a beautiful thing! |
