Took my 2008 1125R out Monday and got stuck at the local gas station. I ended up needing a jump to get home and assumed it was a bad battery. In true dumb-ass fashion, I ended up grabbing an old 2009 Firebolt's (previous bike) battery and hooked it up to the wrong terminals. Doing this instantly started the fan for a few seconds but then the bike went dead... First thing I did was changed all the blown fuses. After doing this The ECM lit up but the bike wouldn't crank. It would just click like the dead battery. On Tuesday, I went to my local HD dealership and changed all 3 relays, (Part Number 31522-00C). The only relay I did not change was tyco relay VFM-15F71-S01 because it was not in stock. It was 5$ so I just had them order it for me... I replaced the relays and gave it another shot. Bike now cranks but will not turn over. I'm getting a "Fuel System Error". I have a couple of questions: 1) besides the fuel box and relay box is there another fuse or relay off the pump that I might need to replace? 2) Does anyone know what the tyco relay VFM-15F71-S01 controls? 3) I'm going to run through the fuses again when i get home but does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks again, |

the new battery wasnt the huge mistake the huge mistake was the person putting the battery in incorrectly |

Ah, Well said hybridmomentspass, unfortunately your response won't get my bike running again... |

They Tyco Relay controls the starter so if it is cranking then that one is good to go. The other 3 relays are for Key Switch, Ignition and Auxiliary. Do you have the exact DTC that it is popping for the fuel system? Also send me a PM and I can send you a PDF of the Electrical Manual. |

Diodes in this bike? If yes, they should be in the fuse box. Replace all. |

I think you might find that it has fried the fuel pump ...somebody else did the same thing and from what I remember it had to have a new fuel pump because of it . |

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump prime? I was looking in the archives, someone did similar on a XB and it just needed a new key switch fuse. |

Found someone who did it on an 1125, looks like the same issue you are having, same fuel pump errors. He didn't post what the solution is, but I suspect the fuel pump needed replacement http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/562641.html?1380137201 |

I don't think it has diodes or else it would still be dead right, preventing any current until replaced? I'm hoping its not the pump, but I deserve it. The Pump is not priming when I turn the ignition on. Thanks Froggy, You're the man. I sent him a PM. |

If it is the fuel pump its not too bad of a job...just have to remove the swingarm to get to it. You can knock it out in a weekend. |

I don't think reverse polarity would hurt the fuel pump. You should be able to test it by connecting power directly. Pull the fuel pump relay and connect jumpers to the two pins that go to the fuel pump. Connect the other ends of the leads to a battery and the pump should run. Oh yea, you need to figure out the correct polarity, so you should probably look at the electrical diagram first. If it doesn't run with power directly across it, then look into replacing it. Check the fuse block as suggested for diodes. There may be one or two and they may prevent a relay from picking up or cause some other issue. You may also have to replace the voltage regulator. Last time this was accidentally done to a car of mine, that's the first thing that blew. |

All signs are pointing to the fuel pump. I confirmed with another brainless friend that made the same mistake. Found a used one on eBay for $100. Just asked to confirm how many miles were on the bike the pump came off of before I buy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-BUELL-1125R-FUEL-PUMP -/400579558402?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&ha sh=item5d4466fc02&vxp=mtr Current Codes I'm Throwing Up: COMM ERROR - U0001 Fuel PMP SYS ERR - P0629 IAC SYS ERROR - P0506 Also called the stealer who quoted 550$ total (250 for the pump) 3 hours of labor... |
