here she blows!! this sucker is toasted, i'm putting a call into Rick's Motorsport Electrics tomorrow to see about one of his Hot Shot Buell stators (http://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/part/20-B112H/ MDlCdWUxMTI1Q1I=)

also, anyone have any ideas about this? i received my new rotor from Buell and noticed that there are two drilled-out points (for the cam-position sensor i'm guessing) and my original rotor only has one. is this a problem?

also, i see that you can get dowels to mount the stator cover so you don't hit the rotor. if the cover just lightly touches the rotor, is that bad?

thanks!

As long as we're just guessing, I'd say that those drilled places are there for balancing purposes on a part that spins up to ~11k rpms.

Re dowels, their purpose is to help align the stator cover while installing the cover thus hopefully avoiding damaging the gasket because of the strong pull of the rotor's magnets to the stator that is bolted to the stator cover. I don't know if this answers your vague question about the cover lightly touching the rotor, but maybe we're clear on the purpose of the dowels.

Ah ok got it, thanks. I read another post that mentioned the dowels keeping the cover from touching the rotor and mine touched a bit when I removed the cover. Cheers!

I made 6 dowels by getting long bolts(120mm ), cutting off the heads and rounding or pointing that end.
I put a piece of rubber tubing(1/8" vacuum line?) in a 1/4 or 5/16 socket, drives the dowel.

The drilled spots in your pic ARE for balancing.
The rim has the notches for the KPS.

The biggest thing the dowels do is give you a fighting chance to re-use the Ignition Cover gasket.
Might also prevent a squished pinky-tip.
