My 08R was tuned by Dyno Solutions (Brookfield, CT) for the P.O. in 2011. A nice guy there was kind enough to send me the dyno runs. Bike was lean when they started. AFR was good & smooth, a little over 120rwhp when they finished. I think the motor is stock but with a loud HPE exhaust system. What do you guys think - Leave the Power Commander V in or get the EBR? Some merit to: "if it aint broke don't fix it"

I dont think youre going to se much more at the rear wheel with a ECM. Might run smoother. |

Get the Autotune Module for the PCV. Update the firmware. And then go run piss out of it! The PCV with Autotune will "live" tune the bike as you ride. The biggest benefit is that it tunes for real world conditions as you are riding. Its a pretty damn good system. We have installed many this year and the riders report big changes that are all good. |

If it's an option, put it all back to stock and run it on the same dyno to see what it makes. 6 hp is ok, but there's a LOT more in a stock motor 1125 with the right mods. The average is around 122-125 hp in completely stock trim. |

Rob '58; I'm running an HPE race exhaust, modded airbox (ie. opened at front) & EBR Ecm (set up for the Barker) on my 1125R and it had been working just fine (until I moved to an ALT 2000ft lower and a nasty gremlin surfaced) and is likely kicking out 130-5rwhp based on straightline track performance (consistently dead even with Ducati 999R over 1/2 mile straight.. and yes the Buell ate him up through the infield but I digress..) & dragstrip testing. I attribute some of this directly to the EBR Ecm. Your dyno looks fine, but I think there's more that could be had in there. |

I've been waiting for this thread, I've used the old PC3 USB and loved it, but I like the idea of supporting EBR by buying their ECM unit. Nothing like factory skunkworks, but I like the tuneability of the PC units. Has anyone tried both or compared the two setups with like exhausts? |

Great input, all, thank you! The PCV autotune seems like a good idea right now. I am sure that I will get an EBR ECU at some point. Tough decision would be whether to get it set for stock (quiet) exhaust or for an open system. Glad to hear that the EBR Barker ECU works with the HPE that I have. When this all happens, I will report dyno with PCV and EBR. |

Sir; You can tune the EBR Ecm with ECMspy or Tunerpro RT (which I am now trying to adjust again due to my recent hot starting gremlin). Rob '58; if you plan on continuing to use the HPE I would recommend going with an EBR Ecm tuned for an open system, the barker essentially being a megaphone type certainly fits the description. |

You would really like the tunability of the Race ECMs then. The PC5 maps are limited by how many programmable cells there are, the ECM has more available giving finer control over the fueling. Also you can adjust ignition, where the base model PCV cannot, then the ECM still gives you the ability to adjust other things like the IAC to adjust engine braking, you can also play with the fan operation, disable the "CT COLD" message, and other things like disable the intake solenoid without throwing a check engine light. The programmable ECM lets you adjust literately everything, while the Power Commander is basically just fueling and optionally spark timing. It does cost a few bucks more than the power commander, but it is lightyears ahead and the way to go in my opinion. The basic preprogrammed Race ECM is good enough for most with just a different muffler. |

I read somewhere that the current versions of the EBR ecm have locked out ECM Spy/Tunerpro, so you have to send it to them to have it tuned, or does the programmable one come with software? Or is it the race ECM that's locked out, and the programmable one comes with software? The more I type the stupiderer I feel. |

The programming kit for the EBR ecm is $500. They are locked out from using ECMspy Or Tuner Pro. you can use ECMspy or TunerPro on the stock ecm. |

I changed the global AFV on an EBR Ecm via Ecmspy in 2011 (to accomodate my opened airbox) perhaps they have since locked that feature out since. |

I've been able to successfully read and write to my EBR ECM and my stock ECM. I don't remember what apps I used--I'd have to fire up my laptop to see, but they were free and they worked fine. For example, I played around with fan speeds on my EBR ECM. (I set them to come on about 10F higher figuring that airflow through the radiators at cruising speed would be enough to keep the coolant temp down, requiring the fans to run less and leaving more stator output to charge the battery, but sure enough, raising the fan turn-on temp raised the running temp regardless of bike speed. Lesson being that even at 60+mph, more air flows through the radiators with the fans on than off. Which is contrary to what I learned waaayyy back in auto tech school.) |

In regards to the dyno numbers, either they are low because of dyno variance (a proven fact) or some 1125s are quite a bit weaker than others. I'd guess it's mostly the former in this case. I ran my '08 on a dyno at bike night in Indy during MotoGP '11 and it put down 122rwhp with an EBR ECM and a Barker. Another Badwebber with a white '09 and comparable mods (EBR ECM and exhaust) ran his a while later and put down almost the exact same numbers, so it's unlikely that mine is a uniquely underpowered example. My buddy's '04 R1, with a K&N, full exhaust and tune put down 144twhp, which also seems low--I figured he'd be in the mid 150 range. (Message edited by thefleshrocket on August 27, 2013) |
