Stator AGAIN!!,

Well once again my poor 1125r has another stator that is in need of replacement, this time it has only managed approx 700 miles since the last one had a custom rewind, The bike is currently with Steve and the crew at Black bear who are doing a fantastic job of looking after me and the bike however the company they used to rewind the stator (HARLEY UK RECOMMENDED) will no longer deal with us Buell owners as they have not had an awful lot of success with the stator. So I am now stuck with a situation where a new stator is over £800.
I was wondering if anyone has a company they have used and can recommend to rewind the stator as I really don’t want to pay all that money for a new one that is still going to fail, I would rather a rewind and the modified rotor, Steve has very kindly offered to post the stator to anyone who could do this whilst my bike is with them in the workshop.

Thanks for your help with this

You've had your stator rewound three times? Did you replace the rotor?

Do you know who BB use ?

I've not used them personally, but I have heard good things about this company - it may be worth giving them a call -

http://www.westcountrywindings.co.uk/applications. htm

And, despite their name, they are in Harlow, Essex, so not a million miles away from BB.

are you operating the bike below 5k RPMS for a extended period of time? I burned up 4 stators up until about 14k miles, I was told to keep the bike at 5k plus RPMS as much as possible and its been great I constantly see 13.8-14.1 unless stopped in traffic and it hasnt burned up.

Shawns -thanks for the feedback I will look into this.

Sportster_mann - yep that's who they use but they really don't want to get involved now.

Georgehitch17 -thanks for the reply.the bike has been used three times since the rewinds all long journeys and fairly high revs.

Dannybuell -thanks for the reply, yes I am using the harness

I forgot to mention I do not use the relay harness! I would examine that stator they must of used a smaller gauge wire or something that would cause that stator to generate more heat and electricity...

When you get the new stator and rotor you won't need the Harley fix. Mine has 18,500 and change and is still going strong.

Georgehitch17 - I have spoke with them direct and they have said that they use the biggest gauge wire and the minimum length required..they seem to know there stuff so I guess I have just been unlucky.

Shawns -that is really good to know,i have had so many problems with the bike but I do love it so much more than all the jap fours i've owned so I will be sticking with this one.

I agree... Once you have the new rotor with the oil passage it probably wont matter what stator you have.

Put an 08 setup on it and forget about it. It has more then enough juice. I run heated grips, jacket liner, and phone charger on my 08 and have never had an issue with lack of current. And when is the last time you heard about a stator problem on an 08?

But then again I never had a problem with my 09 either so maybe I'm just very lucky. ..!

i burned up my first stator at about 10,000 miles. Replaced it with a Ricks motorsports rewind and an EBR modified rotor. I'm at 14,500 miles now and i just pulled the stator case and everything still looks brand new. I regularly commute on it through town and cruise for long distances with the rpm below 5,000rpm and it always charges at or above 14v. I also removed the harness mod when i put in the new stator and rotor.

Disconnect the harness. I did mine and it's been 6,000 miles of smiles. Last oil change, I checked the stator just to see, it it still looked brand new, minus a little oil. I've never seen less than 13.7 at a very long stop light with low and high beams on. Temps at 202, voltage 13.8. Most of the time I sit at 14.2. Remove the harness after the rotor swap.
